Trevecca Win Streak Hits Seven with Sweep of Bloomsburg

Box Score

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene (16-10) swept another non-conference doubleheader against Bloomsburg University (4-10) Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Field.

The Trojans pulled off an improbable come-from-behind victory in game one rallying from a 7-0 deficit to win 8-7 in extra innings. TNU would earn its second sweep of the Huskies in game two prevailing 3-1.

In the opener, Bloomsburg would score a run in the first, two more in the third and one in the fifth before plating three in the sixth. Jordan Schainholz delivered an RBI double to push the Huskies lead to 5-0. Two batters later Brian Almand hit a two-run single up the middle to push BU's lead to 7-0.

TNU would finally get on the board in the sixth to bring the score to 7-1 following a Blake Rogers RBI single to right field scoring Nick Howell.

Down 7-1 heading to the seventh, Trae Weiss and Cameron Boyett started the inning with a walk and hit by pitch, respectively.  The pressure would mount on Trevecca as the next two at-bats saw a strike out and a line out to center. After Mark Rayburn was hit by pitch loading the bases, centerfielder Jordan Foreman took a 3-2 pitch to left field clearing the bases and bringing the score to 7-4. Two batters later, Rogers drove in Foreman and then Corey Crunk would ground to short stop who made a throwing error loading the bases again. Cade Seeley then entered as a pinch hitter in the next at-bat and would connect to with a shot to left scoring Rogers. During the play, Bloomsburg attempted to run down Crunk between second and third and during that sequence, Newman would run home and tie the game at 7.

Trevecca would use that momentum on the defensive side during the eighth retiring the side.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Newman would deliver the game-winning hit to deep right field over the out-stretched arms of the Huskies right fielder.

Dakota Angell picked up the win for TNU as he went two innings and allowed just one hit.

Rayburn and Rogers each went 3-for-4 while Foreman drove in a team-high three runs.

In game two, Mason Dunn, a freshman from Beech High School, hurled a complete game allowing five hits, two walks, and struck out four in the seven-inning game. He leveled his record at 2-2 with the win and permitted just one earned run.

Eric Geedey (3-1) lost for the first time this season for Bloomsburg. The Husky lasted just two innings giving up two hits, two runs - one earned, with no walks or strikeouts.

A.J. Stump was the lone Husky player to collect multiple hits while Nick Mazza drove in BU's only run of the game in the seventh with a fielder's choice RBI.

In winning their seventh game in a row, Trevecca produced their three runs on six hits and had two errors. The Huskies scored their run with five hits and had three errors.

Trevecca scored one in the first and another single run in the second and fifth innings.

Foreman was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while four other Trojans had a hit in the game. Newman and Rogers were the only Trojans to drive in a run. Alex Aubery, who worked behind the plate, scored the other run. Aubery was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and gunned down the only stolen base attempt against him.

In the first, Foreman reached base on a hit by pitch with two outs. Rogers followed two batters later with a single to center that scored Foreman.

In the second, Aubery doubled with one out and advanced to third when Chad McDaniel reached on an error. Aubery would then cross home plate after Howell grounded to second who made a throwing error at first for another Trojan run.

Newman would provide the final run for Trevecca in the fifth as he drove in Foreman who doubled earlier in the inning.

Trevecca returns to action March 26 as they host North Alabama for a 6 p.m. contest. The Lions previously defeated the Trojans 10-8 on Feb. 26
