Box Score 2 McKENZIE, Tenn. – Breanna Zeis led the Trevecca Nazarene (6-4) softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Bethel University (3-10) Monday afternoon at Wildcat Field in a non-conference matchup.
ÂÂ
The senior outfielder was outstanding in the batter's box going 5-for-6 (.833 BA) with one double, a home run, six runs driven and three more scored.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
In the opener, the Trojans scored in every single inning as Zeis went 3-for-4. Lindsey Stephens collected multiple hits (2) as well, while also scoring two runs and driving in two. Aubrey Jordan and Heather Shuler rounded out the strong batting performance as each collected multiple hits for TNU.ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Natalie Papini (3-1) was nearly perfect in the circle as she tossed four innings and didn't allow a hit while striking out four.
ÂÂ
The fourth inning brought the highlight of the game for Zeis, a two-run home run scoring Stephens who had doubled to lead off the inning.
ÂÂ
Bethel would finally get on the board in the sixth. A two-run double by Blakely Robertson and an RBI single from Shelby Evans provided the lone scoring for the Lady Wildcats.
ÂÂ
In game two, Bethel held a 2-1 lead heading to the top of the third, but the Trojans would erupt for six runs that inning to take control of the game.
ÂÂ
Stephens and Zeis would give TNU a 3-2 lead with back-to-back RBI singles and the scoring would be capped off with a Haylee Rogers groundout RBI allowing Mackenzie Leding to cross home.
ÂÂ
The Lady Wildcats would rally to cut the deficit to 8-6 in the fifth inning. Summer Winters connected with a shot to drive in a run while Brooklyn Jenkins drove in two herself.
ÂÂ
That would be the closest Bethel would get the rest of the way as Trevecca added a run in the sixth before the game was called due to darkness.
ÂÂ
Stephens picked up her first win of the year in the circle for TNU. She tossed 5.2 innings, allowed eight hits, six runs and fanned two batters.
ÂÂ
Lacey Grimes led Trevecca in game two going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two more driven in. Five different Trojan players collected multiple hits.
ÂÂ
Ericca McCormic took the loss for Bethel as she pitched 3.2 innings, allowed nine hits, eight runs and fanned two.
ÂÂ
Winters led the Lady Wildcats' offensive efforts collecting a team-high three hits while also scoring four runs. Jenkins and Robertson also collected multiple hits for BU.
ÂÂ
Trevecca will return to action March 23 as it hosts Cedarville University (11-8) for the first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Trojan Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
