NASHVILLE – Trevecca (2-4) swept a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon over Asbury University (1-10) at Jackson Field. TNU won game one 10-4 and 8-1 in game two.

Box Score GM 1

With the score tied at three, the Trojans would come up to bat in the bottom of the third and capture the lead.  With two runners in scoring position and one out, Luke Fennell would hit a groundout RBI to shortstop scoring Tyler Tichenor.

Asbury responded to tie the game in the top half of the fourth (4-4) with an RBI single from Simeon Bell.

It would be the last run of the game however for the Eagles.

The bottom half of the fourth brought four runs for the Trojans. With the bases loaded, Hunter Newman singled to the pitcher scoring Nick Howell. Luke Fennell followed that up with a two-run RBI double to right field.  Blake Rogers rounded out the big inning with another double scoring Newman.

TNU's bullpen would close out the game strong for coach Schmalz. Tim Bowles came in for Alex Shoulders who tossed four innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out three.  Bowles allowed just one hit in two innings of work while Codi Webb faced three batters and induced two groundouts and one fly out.

"We did a lot of things well today.  In particular, we pitched very well.  In game one, Alex was as sharp as he normally is, but our pen really stepped up," Schmalz said.

Connor Haddock led the way in game two pitching six innings, scattering four hits and allowing just one earned run. He also struck out six batters with no walks.

Box Score GM 2

The Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the first when Howell scored on a wild pitch and Mark Rayburn scored on a fielder's choice.

Asbury's Dallas Murphy provided the lone run for the Eagles in game two. He singled through the left side scoring Matt Mitchell in the fourth inning.

Trevecca would score six more runs in the final three innings to pull away from Asbury. Howell collected an RBI single in the fourth; Fennell flyed out to center scoring Rayburn; and Rayburn added a two-run single in the sixth highlighted the scoring efforts.

Ryne Rayburn would close the game out in the seventh with two strikeouts and a foul ball that was caught by Newman.

The Trojans return to action Feb. 16 for another doubleheader against Asbury starting at noon at Jackson Field.
