Volleyball | Cedarville Nips Trevecca in Four Sets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Amanda Bell's 16 kills and 10 digs helped lead Cedarville University (20-13, 12-1 G-MAC) to a tightly-contested, four-set victory over Trevecca Nazarene (15-14, 5-8 G-MAC) Friday evening in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball match at the Callan Athletic Center.

Bell hit .382 for the match with just three errors on 34 swings.  Abby Shelton contributed 12 kills while Hannah Wagner added 11. Stephanie Rogers chipped in with 10 kills and seven digs while Maddie Anderson and Kristin Cardwell handed out 33 and 23 assists, respectively. Angela Becker paced the Lady Jackets defense with a match-high 18 digs.

Kristen Johnson led the Trojans with a triple-double totaling 10 kills, a team-high 17 assists and 14 digs. Katelyn Atkinson tallied 16 kills and 11 digs while Kayleigh Jarrett and Shelby Sorce each collected nine digs. Loren Bennett added 16 assists.

The Trojans jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the first set before the Lady Jackets went on an 11-3 run capped off by Wagner's kill which brought the score to 12-7 CU. Trevecca cut the deficit to 14-11 following a Cedarville service error but that would be the closest they would get the rest of the way.

Down 16-13 in the second set, Trevecca would rally to tie the match after a Lady Jacket error. TNU found itself down again 24-23 but a CU error would tie the match again. Trevecca would prevail 28-26 with kills by Atkinson and Jarrett.  

In the third set, both teams would battle back and forth before Cedarville attained a 19-15 lead on a kill by Shelton. Trevecca would tie the set at 23 following an attack error by Bell and would tie again at 24 following an Atkinson kill. But the home Lady Jackets would score the final two points to go up 2-1.

Cedarville had a pair of five-point advantages in the fourth set but Trevecca would continue to fight. Down 13-8, TNU would go on a 10-6 run to pull the match to within one point (19-18) following a Lady Jacket error. The Trojans got to within one point again (23-22) unfortunately CU would get a kill from Tori Thompson and an ace from Shelton to close the match.

Trevecca will look to end its regular season on a high note as it faces Central State University (0-17, 0-12 G-MAC) for a 12 p.m. match Nov. 16.
