Volleyball | Trevecca Sweeps Union on Dig Pink Night

Box Score

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene (7-4) pulled away in the final two sets to sweep Union University (4-12) Tuesday night in a non-conference women's volleyball match at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

The match was a part of Dig Pink Night as the Trojan volleyball team raised money to donate to the Tennessee Breast Cancer Awareness Coalition.

In the first set, the Lady Bulldogs had their biggest lead after a Trojan attack error brought the score to 4-1. As it turned out, that would be the largest advantage of the match for UU.

TNU would eventually tie the match a 4 apiece and go on an 8-2 run to take a 12-6 lead following a Kristen Johnson kill. Trevecca would maintain that lead the rest of the way as Union got to within two points a trio of times but could not find a way to tie it.  Both teams struggled offensively as the Trojans hit -.027 while Union finished with a .000 mark.

Leading 11-9 in set two, the Trojans would go on a monster 14-3 run. The run started with a Lydia Wright service error and would end with a Persephonie Devereaux kill. The Lady Bulldogs would aid TNU with six attack errors.

The final set saw Trevecca open with a 10-2 run as Katelyn Atkinson had a pair of kills during the stretch. Johnson gave TNU its biggest lead (21-7) after she sent a pass from Caroline Gay to the gym floor. Trevecca was much more efficient in the third set hitting .318 while holding Union to -.207.

The Trojans' defense was solid holding Union to a -.069 attack percentage and registering 12 block assists and seven total team blocks.

Johnson and Atkinson had seven kills and six kills, respectively, and each had a team-high nine digs.  Caroline Gay had eight assists while Shelby Sorce collected eight digs.

Deja Moore led Union with seven kills while Abbey Wainwright paced the Lady Bulldogs defense with a match-high 12 digs. Wright contributed a match-high 10 assists.

The Trojans will hit the road this coming weekend for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Crossover held in Mason, Ohio. TNU will open up conference play Oct. 4 as they'll face Alderson-Broaddus University (6-7) at 1:30 p.m. and follow at 6:30 p.m. against Davis & Elkins College (2-10).
