Trevecca Finishes Third @ 2012 NCCAA Championships

Box Score TROUTVILLE, Va. - Trevecca's run at the 2012 NCCAA Softball National Championships ended with a 5-3 loss to Campbellsville University (41-23) in the finals of the loser's bracket. Trevecca (38-16-1) finishes at the third place team at the championships. After Judson defeated Trevecca 2-1 in the first game of the tournament, TNU rallied for three straight wins with a combined score of 17-0. The loss ends the season for Trevecca and the college career's of seniors Riley Mashburn, Lauren Baker, Caitlyn Bailey, and Kari Mason.

Campbellsville scored a run in the second and then added two more runs in the third and fourth innings for a 5-0 lead. Trevecca scored all three of their runs in the sixth. With one away in the Trojan sixth, Breanna Zeis reached on a walk. Heather Shuler and Lindsey Stephens followed with singles. Shuler settled at third while Zeis scored on the Stephens single. Stephens stole second base and the throw was off target enough to allow Shuler to score and Stephens advanced to third. Lacey Grimes drove in Stephens from third.

Lindsey Stephens was 3-for-3 on the day with a double, stolen base, a run scored, and an RBI. Trevecca scored their three runs on six hits and had three errors. Campbellsville scored their five runs on five hits and had one error.

Lauren Baker (14-7) started he game for Trevecca and took the loss after allowing four this, five runs - three earned, and three walks while striking out one in four innings of work. Natalie Papini pitched the final three innings allowing one hit and three walks while striking out two. Courtney Turpin (20-10) picked up the win for the Tigers. Turpin allowed three hits and a walk and struck out three Trojans in five innings of work. Taylor Wroe finished the game allowing three this, three runs-two earned, and a walk while striking out three.

Awards: Lauren Baker was named a 2012 NCCAA First Team All-American. Lindsey Stephens and Aubrey Jordan made the 2012 NCCAA All-Tournament Team.

Notes: The 38 wins this season is fifth most in the 21-year history of the program. The Trevecca program surpassed the 1000 game mark this season and sit one win short of 600 wins. After 21 seasons, the program is 599-412-2 overall. As Trevecca has now finished play in the TranSouth Athletic Conference, their overall record is unofficially 202-102-1. Conference records for the 1997 and 1998 seasons are not known.

Trevecca participate as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), a new NCAA Division ll conference. Each Trevecca team will have the opportunity to participate in the conference championships and earn awards as a member of the conference. Trevecca teams won't be eligible, because the athletic program is in its second season of the membership process, for NCAA Division ll postseason play next year. Following play in the GMAC postseason events, Trevecca teams will participate in NCCAA postseason play as they qualify.
