PULASKI, Tenn. - The
Trevecca men's basketball team (18-11, 10-6 TranSouth) saw No. 6 Martin
Methodist (24-6, 13-3) close the game with a 17-6 run for a 78-68 victory. It
was the final game for Trevecca as a member of the NAIA and the TranSouth.
Trevecca led 6-4 when
Michael France nailed a three-point basket, giving the senior five of the
Trojans first six points. The defending
TranSouth champions answered with a 9-0 run that put MMC ahead 13-7. TNU cut the MMC lead to just two points
(16-14), but the RedHawks pulled away again with a 9-2 run for a nine-point
(25-16) lead with 8:27 remaining in the half.
Trevecca's
Milos Macura hit a three-pointer with 5:35 remaining capping
a 12-3 run that tied the game at 28. Macura hit his second three of the first half
with :38 seconds remaining to cap a 5-0 run that tied the game at 36 going to
the half.
After closing the first half
with a 5-0, Trevecca opened the second half with a 7-2 run. Trevecca led 43-38,
but Martin Methodist used a 12-2 run to regain the lead at 50-45. MMC led
52-46, but TNU tied the game again at 52 with 11:08 to go. Trevecca regained a
one-point (62-61) lead with 6:15 to go on a
Michael France field goal. The
RedHawks closed the game on a 17-6 run for a 10-point 78-66 victory. The win
gives the RedHawks their second consecutive TranSouth championship.
Trevecca shot 42% (25-59)
from the field, 28% (6-21) from three-point range, and 57% (12-21) from the
foul line. Martin Methodist shot 40% (27-68) from the field, 28% (6-21), and
67% (18-27) from the foul line.
Ree McCrory led the RedHawks
with 28 points. James Justice added 22 points.
Trevecca will participate in
the 2012 NCCAA Mid-East Regional March 8-10 at Hiwassee College.
