Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. – Trevecca Nazarene (20-12) used outstanding defense against Cumberland Universoity (8-25) Thursday night to win in four sets (25-12, 25-14, 28-30, 25-17) in a non-conference volleyball match.

 The Trojans' defense limited the Bulldogs to a .080 hitting percentage throughout the match.

Junior Kristen Johnson recorded a match-high 19 kills and added 15 assists for Trevecca. Loren Bennett totaled a double-double with a match-high 26 assists and 13 digs. Shelby Sorce added 13 digs while Allison Boe chipped in with six kills and 11 digs.ÂÂ

Jessi Stas had a team-high 16 kills for Cumberland while Mackenzie Gass added 11 kills, five digs and five block assists. Lacey Gregory dished out a team-high 15 assists. Jackie Munoz and Jenna Pavan each recorded eight digs for the Bulldogs.

In the first set, Trevecca jumped out to an 11-5 lead following an attack error by Munoz. The Trojans would gain their biggest lead (22-9) following a Bennett service ace. Johnson led TNU's offense with three kills while the Trojan defense held the Bulldogs to a -.037 hitting percentage.

Following a Danielle Girardeau kill in set two that brought the score to 8-7 Trevecca; the Trojans would go on a 7-0 run to gain control. The Bulldogs committed five errors in that run while Boe and Persephonie Devereaux each had a kill. Cumberland hit .000 in the set compared to Trevecca's .333.

The Bulldogs would win a thrilling third set rallying from a 21-13 deficit. Trailing by eight, CU would begin its comeback with a kill by Stas. Cumberland gained a few extra points off Trojan errors however was still down. Trailing 24-22, the Bulldogs would tie the match on a Munoz kill and a TNU error. After tying the set, both teams would gain one-point leads but it would be Cumberland who prevailed with two errors by Trevecca at the end.

TNU would respond in set four to close the match out. After trailing early (8-4), Trevecca would go on a 10-4 run to gain a lead it would never relinquish. Bennett had three kills during that stretch. Delaney Hearne led the Trojans with five kills in the set.ÂÂ

Trevecca returns to action Nov. 9 as it hosts Urbana University (9-19, 4-2 G-MAC) in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match at 7 p.m.
