Trevecca splits two conference matches at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Completing its three-match conference road trip, the Trevecca Nazarene University (14-9, 3-2 G-MAC) volleyball team split two matches today against Cedarville University (20-3, 3-0 G-MAC) and Ursuline College (2-21, 1-4 G-MAC).

 

The Trojans fell in three sets to the Yellow Jackets (25-23, 25-8, 25-17) but rebounded against the Arrows (25-20, 25-24, 25-4).

 

In match one against Cedarville, Shelby Sorce led TNU with seven kills and collected five digs.  Loren Bennett paced the defense with a team-high 11 digs while Caroline Gay dished out 10 assists.

 

Lori Inkrott tallied a match-high 12 kills while Kara Yutzy collected 15 digs.  Maddie Anderson led Cedarville with a match-high 27 assists and Hannah Wagner chipped in with 10 kills.

 

In the first set, both teams battled back and forth with the biggest lead coming for the Yellow Jackets at 23-20 following an Inkrot kill.  Trevecca would have a chance to tie the set late, however, Cedarville's Stephanie Rogers would come through with a kill pushing the Yellow Jackets to a 25-23 win.

 

Cedarville's defense would be the story in set two as they held the Trojan offense to a -.032 hitting percentage.  The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 13-4 lead following a service error by TNU and would not look back going up by as many as 13 (20-7)  before pulling away by a score of 25-8.

 

The Yellow Jackets would close out the match in the third set with a 10-4 run after being tied with the Trojans at 10-10.  Inkritt had five kills in the set. 

 

In match two, Trevecca would get its second win of the season over Ursuline.  Persephonie Devereaux would tally 10 kills while Johnson chipped in with nine kills, 17 assists and 10 digs. Gay led with 19 assists while Bennett collected a match-high 21 kills.

 

Alex Leister led the Arrows with six kills and 11 digs. Ashley Reinhart handed out 18 assists.

 

The first set featured three ties and four lead changes. TNU jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead before the Arrows regained a slight 5-4 advantage.  Both teams would go back and forth until the set became tied at 17. The Trojans would make their run there going up 23-19 following a Devereaux kill and would eventually win 25-20.

 

In set two, the Trojans would lead throughout and prevail 26-24. The Arrows would tie the match several times but could never gain an advantage as TNU held UC to a .103 hitting percentage. Sorce had three kills during the set

 

Trevecca closed out the match in convincing style in set three winning 25-4. They held the Arrows offense to a -.200 hitting percentage.  Delaney Hearne had three kills while Allison Boe added two of her own.

 

The Trojans next return to action Oct. 9 as they travel to Freed-Hardeman for a 7 p.m. match.
