Box Score LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Bruno De Moraes' goal in the sixth minute would be all the scoring Trevecca Nazarene (9-8-0) would need to defeat Covenant College 2-0 (9-9-1) Tuesday night in a non-conference men's soccer match.
Â
De Moraes fired a shot from just outside the box to give the Trojans an early advantage.
Â
The Scots would try and tie the match throughout the rest of the first half but Trojan defenders blocked six-of-their-seven shots.
Â
In the second half, the Trojan defense would tighten until the 72nd minute when Jonathan Baskin sent a shot to the left post past Covenant goalkeeper Jacob Richter.
Â
The Scots would threaten the 2-0 TNU lead just a few minutes after. Following a foul on Samuel Mummert, Covenant's Chris Pifer attempted a penalty kick in the 77th minute. His shot was saved though by Daniel Mudd.
Â
Not even 10 seconds later Mudd would deny another shot this time from Ryan Parr.
Â
The Scots' last shot on-goal came in 81st minute from Joel Friesen. His attempt was thwarted by Mudd again preservering the 2-0 win for Trevecca.
Â
Mudd recorded three saves for TNU while his counterpart Richter collected three for Covenant.
Â
The Scots out-shot the Trojans 16-12 and held a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
The win concludes Trevecca's regular season and they'll play next Nov. 2 at Cedarville University in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament match at 4:00 p.m.
