GAME ONE RECAP
The Trojans scored in the top of the first on a bases-loaded walk to
Heather Shuler, but the Bulldogs tied it with a run of their own in the
bottom half of the inning. Trevecca seemed to take control of the game
in the third inning, when
Melinda Patterson's bases-loaded double to
deep left field made it 4-1. The Trojans extended the lead in the fifth
on a solo home run by
Lauren Baker, her fifth blast of the season. The
Bulldogs, however, refused to go quietly, sending seven batters to the
plate in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits to
make it 5-4 Trevecca heading to the sixth inning.
But the Trojans put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth,
thanks in large part to freshman outfielder
Haylee Rogers. With one out,
Kelsey Lantrip doubled to get things started. After back-to-back walks
to
Kari Mason and
Karli Rush, the Bulldogs made a change in the circle,
replacing starter Keaton Kirk with Caroline George. George retired Baker
on a pop up to foul territory, but wasn't quite so fortunate with
Rogers, who drove a 1-0 pitch over the left-field fence for her first
career grand slam and a 9-4 Trojan lead.
Patterson was the only Trojan with more than one hit, going 2-4 with a
double and three RBI. Rogers went 1-4 with a home run, a run, and four
RBI. Baker went 1-3 with a home run, a run, and an RBI. Mason and Rush
each scored twice.
Baker (15-0) went the distance in the circle for Trevecca, giving up
four runs on five hits in seven innings, with nine strikeouts and six
walks. Kirk (9-4) took the loss for Union.
GAME TWO RECAP
Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the
first inning. CJ Browder was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Amber
Hayes squeeze bunt. Shelby Lamb drove in the second run with a single
later in the inning. Trevecca rallied to take a 4-2 lead with a run in
the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Haylee Rogers added a solo
home run.
Union answered when Keaton Kirk hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cut the Trojan lead in half at 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh Union's Tobie Joy drew a lead-off walk.
Hayes reached on an error that moved Joy to second. Lamb then bunted for
a hit that scored Joy from second as the ball got through the infield.
Hayes moved to third base on the bunt and then scored on a wild pitch to
win the game.
Union's Brooke Thomas (11-3) earned the complete game victory with four
runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
Riley Mashburn
(11-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks.
Mashburn struck out four Bulldogs.
Karli Rush was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Haylee Rogers was 2-4 with two RBI, a run scored, a double, and a home run.
Trevecca will visit Cumberland University (21-15, 10-6 TranSouth) in
nearby Lebanon, Tenn. on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The next home game will be on
Thursday, April 7 at 4 p.m. when Martin Methodist (19-18, 5-9
TranSouth) visits for a pair of games.
