No. 8 Trevecca Sweeps Bethel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The 8th-ranked Trevecca softball team (19-2, 8-0 TranSouth) remained unbeaten in conference play with a pair of wins over Bethel University (7-10, 5-5 TranSouth) Wednesday afternoon, 11-2 and 3-1.

In the opener, the Trojans made quick work of the Wildcats, scoring a run in the first and adding 10 more runs in the next two innings to put the game out of reach. Bethel scored twice in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending early due to the run rule. Trevecca scored 11 runs on 11 hits, with three errors and five runners left on base. Bethel scored two runs on four hits, with three errors and five left on base.

Karli Rush paced the attack, going 3-3 with a double, three RBI, and three runs. Kelsey Lantrip, Kari Mason, and Monica West all added two hits apiece, while Heather Shuler drove in three runs and Breanna Zeis drove in a pair.

Lauren Baker (10-0) started and pitched the first three innings, giving up a pair of hits and three walks. Hannah Schnebly pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs on two hits, with five strikeouts and one walk. Ashton Carnahan (1-2) suffered the loss for Bethel.

The Trojans benefited from four Wildcat errors in winning the nightcap. After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, Trevecca tied the game in the third and added two more in the fourth to wrap up the scoring. Mason was the only Trojan with multiple hits, going 2-4, while Rush added a hit and an RBI, and Lantrip, West, and Melinda Patterson scored the Trojan runs.

The Trojans scored three runs on seven hits with one error and eight runners left on base, while the Wildcats scored one run on five hits, while committing four errors and leaving three runners on.

Riley Mashburn (7-2) went the distance for the win, with three strikeouts and just one walk. Leah Hensley (3-4) took the loss for the Wildcats.

The Trojans return home Thursday for a pair of non-conference games with Tennessee Wesleyan (9-11) at 3 p.m. Trevecca will host Lyon (12-11, 4-4 TranSouth) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
