Trevecca Goes 4-1 @ GCI, Now 12-1 on Year

Box Score GULF SHORES, Ala. - NAIA No. 9 Trevecca (12-1) finished up 4-1 at the 2011 Gulf Shores Invitational after winning two of three games on Saturday. Trevecca defeated LSU-Alexandria (5-13) 10-2 in five innings and then defeated No. 18 Brenau University (13-2), 5-4. Trevecca lost their final game at the GCI, 8-3 to #RV Southern Nazarene (20-5).

GAME TWO (of Saturday - Game Four of GCI)
Trevecca fell behind 1-0 when the Golden Tigers scored a run in the top of the third. The Trojans rallied for a 2-1 lead with two in the bottom of the fifth. The Trojans finished their scoring with three in the sixth. The Tigers made things interesting with three runs in the top of the seventh, but fell a run short.

Lauren Baker (6-0) picked up the win with a complete game. Baker allowed seven hits, one earned run, and a walk while striking out four Golden Tigers. Jenny Shepherd (1-1) took the loss allowing two earned runs and seven hits in 4.2 innings pitched. Shepherd struck out four Trojans. Anna Maness pitched the final 2.1 innings for the Golden Tigers giving up three earned runs, three hits, with two strike outs.

GAME THREE (of Saturday,  Final GCI Game)
Trevecca lost for the first time in 2011, an 8-3 loss to #RV Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm have won 13 straight games.

The tournament serves as a 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship preview, as the University of Mobile will host nationals at the Sportsplex May 19-25, along with the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission. Thirteen of the 28 teams in the event were ranked in the NAIA Top 25 or are receiving votes.

Trevecca returns home for a pair of games with Rogers State (19-4) on Tuesday (3/15) at 4 p.m.
