Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - Trevecca and Lindsey Wilson played another game right to the wire Saturday afternoon at the Biggers Sports Center, but this time the Blue Raiders prevailed, holding on for a 72-71 victory as
Eric Orr's shot in the lane bounced off the rim as time expired. The Raiders (9-3) gain a season split with the Trojans (8-5), who won 67-66 in Nashville on November 10. Â
"The guys gave a great effort today, and we had a real shot to come out of here with the win," said Head Coach Sam Harris. "In tight games like that, a play here and there can make all the difference in the end, and Lindsey Wilson made enough plays to pull out the win."
The Blue Raiders looked to be in control after Darren Ballou's three-pointer with 5:32 left gave Lindsey Wilson a 63-58 lead, but the Trojans answered with 11 straight points, capped off by a pair of free throws by
Marquise Rudolph that gave Trevecca a 69-63 lead with just 1:54 to play.
A free throw by the Blue Raiders' Wesley Hanspard made it 69-64, and a shot clock violation by Trevecca gave the ball back to Lindsey Wilson with 1:00 remaining. Chase Cox buried a three-pointer to make it 69-67, and after a quick timeout, the Blue Raiders forced a turnover and Cox drained another three to give the Blue Raiders a 70-69 lead with :40 left.
"We talked in the timeout about not giving up threes," added Coach Harris. "But he got free and really hurt us there at the end."
The excitement continued, as
JP Nyadaro put back Rudolph's miss in the lane to put the Trojans back on top 71-70 with :30 left. Lindsey Wilson's Chase Spreen quickly answered at the other end, scoring just six seconds later to give the Blue Raiders the lead again, setting up the game's final possession.
After a timeout, Rudolph dribbled on the perimeter, nearly turning it over before finding Orr in the right corner. The sophomore forward dribbled and spun into the paint, putting the ball up on the rim as the clock ticked down, but it bounced twice on the rim and fell off as the buzzer sounded, giving the Blue Raiders the victory.
Maliek Daniels led three Trojans in double figures with 18 points.
Michael France added 16 and
Marquise Rudolph chipped in with 15. The Raiders' Kalen Kimberland led all scorers with 19 points.
Trevecca shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field, 33% (3-9) from three-point range, and 72.7% (16-22) from the free throw line. Lindsey Wilson shot 42.9% (24-56) from the floor, 40.7% (11-27) from beyond the arc, and 86.7% (13-15) from the charity stripe. The Trojans won the rebounding battle 38-30, led by France, Nyadaro, and Orr with seven apiece.
"The guys are really disappointed, because this is a game they know they could have won," added Coach Harris. "But I'm pleased with where we are right now, and I think we can really do some good things in the second half of the season."

The Trojans are now off until the New Year, when they open TranSouth Conference action Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. against Mid-Continent (1-11) at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
