Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (8-6, 2-0 TranSouth) won their conference home opener, knocking off Blue Mountain College (6-9,0-2) 84-69 Saturday afternoon at Moore Gym.
The game went back-and-forth for much of the first half, with the Trojans taking their largest lead of four points twice, first at 16-12 on a jumper by
Michael France with 12:25 left in the half, and later at 18-14 on a bucket by
Keith Morris with 12:03 to play until halftime. The Toppers would lead by as many as five points later in the half, 33-28, before the Trojans went on an 11-4 run near the end of the half, capped off by
JP Nyadaro's three-point play with 3:35 left to put the Trojans ahead 39-37. But the Toppers scored the final five points of the half to take a 42-39 lead to the locker room.
An 11-2 Trevecca run in the first 3:44 of the second half put the Trojans up 50-44 with 16:16 left in the
contest. Blue Mountain answered with five straight points to make the score 50-49, but the Toppers never would regain the lead. With 10:58 to play, a Renell Collins 3-pointer brought the Toppers within 59-56, but the Trojans scored the next 10 points to take a 69-56 lead with 6:31 left, essentially putting the game out of reach.
For the afternoon, Trevecca shot 48% from the field, including 30% (6-20) from 3-point range, and knocked down 69% (20-29) of their free throws. Blue Mountain shot 47%, making 5-12 (42%) from 3-point range, and drilled 10 of 12 (83%) from the charity stripe.
Marquise Rudolph paced four Trojans in double figures with 23 points, going 9-9 from the foul line, and added four assists and three rebounds. France and Morris added 15 points apiece, with Nyadaro adding 14. Morris led the way on the boards with seven, while Nyadaro added six. France added four boards and led the team with six assists.
The Trojans will host the Bethel Wildcats (10-4, 0-1 TranSouth) Thursday night at 8 p.m.
