Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (8-7, 2-1 TranSouth) dropped a heartbreaker
Thursday night at Moore Gym, falling on a last-second shot, 73-71, to the #RV Bethel Wildcats ((12-4, 1-1 TSAC).
The teams traded buckets and leads early in the contest, and the game was tied at 14 when the Trojans went on an 8-0 run, capped off by a 3-point play by
Blake Carden with 10:14 left in the half to put the Trojans on top 22-14. But the Wildcats continued to chip away, eventually taking a two point lead on two separate occasions late in the half, before the teams traded runs at the end of the half to head to the locker room tied at 36.
Bethel stormed out of the locker room on a 10-2 run to take a 46-38 lead, forcing Trojan Coach Sam Harris to call a timeout with 16:08 to play. A free throw and a bucket by senior
Jeremy Dixon but the Wildcat lead to five, but Bethel maintained the lead throughout the half. A 3-pointer by sophomore
Marquise Rudolph cut the Bethel lead to 62-60 with 4:44 to play, but Bethel scored five of the next seven points to push the margin back to 67-62 with 3:16 left. Again, the Trojans continued to battle, drawing to within 71-69 on a free throw by sophomore
JP Nyadaro with :40 left. After a Wildcat turnover, a layup by Nyadaro tied the game with just :05 on the clock, and the game appeared to be heading to overtime. But Bethel's Jarvis Palmer drove the length of the floor and scored at the buzzer to give the Wildcats the victory.
Trevecca shot 47% (26-55) from the field, 43% (6-14) from 3-point range, and 68% (13-19) from the line. Bethel shot 44% (31-70) from the floor, 33% (4-12) from 3-point range, and 50% (7-14) from the charity stripe. The Trojans were out-rebounded 42-33, including 23-13 on the offensive glass.
Junior
Michael France paced three Trojans in double figures with 18 points, and added four rebounds and a team-high three assists.
Keith Morris added 15, and Nyadaro recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Wildcats had seven players score at least eight points, led by Javis Williams with 11.
