Trojans Split DH @ Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. - NAIA No. 19 Trevecca (37-14, 11-3 TSAC) split a doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson College (39-12) Friday, dropping the opener 7-1, before coming back to take the nightcap 3-2 in eight innings. Lindsey Wilson is coached by former Trojan Ashley McCool.

In the opener, the Blue Raiders jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning, and that's the way it stayed until Lauren Baker's RBI single in the fifth inning cut the deficit in half. But LWC answered right back with a run in their half of the fifth, and then put the game away with four runs in the sixth. Trevecca managed only two hits off Blue Raiders starter Anyibell Ramirez (19-5), who struck out 13 Trojans while only walking two. Riley Mashburn (19-7) suffered the defeat for Trevecca, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Trojans salvaged the split with an extra-inning win in the nightcap, as Karli Rush's sacrifice fly scored Megan Hemmingsen with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning. The Blue Raiders had scored first, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout in the first inning, with the Trojans answering on a home run in the fourth by Monica West, her team-leading 14th jack of the season. The game remained tied 1-1 until Lindsey Wilson scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth, but again the Trojans answered. Melinda Patterson scored on a wild pitch by Anyibell Ramirez, who had relieved starter Morgan Paschall in the eighth, to tie the game at two and force extra innings. Rush's sac fly gave the Trojans the lead, and a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth ended things for the Blue Raiders.

The two teams combined for just six hits, as both starters were dominant in the circle. Lauren Baker (18-7) got the win for the Trojans, giving up just three hits and no earned runs in eight innings of work, with 10 strikeouts and just two walks. Paschall (18-6) took the loss for the Blue Raiders, giving up one earned run on three hits in 6.1 innings, with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Trevecca will host the 2010 TranSouth Softball Tournament April 28-30, 2010. The Trojans will be the tournament's top seed after finishing on top of the 2010 TranSouth regular season standings. Trevecca has won or shared the TranSouth regular season title in five of the last six years.
