Box Score CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Trevecca (18-8), receiving votes in the preseason NAIA Top 25, split a double-header with No. 5 Lee University (23-8), falling 10-3 in game one and winning the second 7-6.
Lee is coached by former Trojan player and assistant coach Mark Brew.
In game one, Lee posted a run in their half of the first inning and Trevecca tied the game 1-1 with a run in third. Lee took a commanding 6-1 lead with five runs in the bottom of the third. The Trojans scored two in the fourth, but the Flames added three more in their half of the fourth for a 9-3 lead. The host Flames scored a final run in the fifth for a 10-3 win. Lee had 10 hits while Trevecca had seven with an error.
Kyle Pfirmman (4-2) took the loss for Trevecca. The usually stellar junior allowed six hits, six runs, and two walks in 2.1 innings of work. B.J. Boston pitched for the first time this season, bouncing back from a preseason injury. Boston tossed 1.2 innings of work allowing a hit, a run, and a walk. David Eskew (4-1) pitched the complete game for Lee.
Chad Reynolds was 2-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. Zack Sutton was 2-4 with an RBI.
Matt Tidwell was 1-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Lee had three home runs in the game. Two from Tanner Moore and one from Junior Rodriguez.
In game two, Trevecca scored first with three runs in the third, another in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. Lee scored three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and tied the game with one in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. Trevecca pushed a run across in the eighth, then held Lee in the bottom half for the win. Trevecca had 11 hits to Lee's 10 and both teams committed a pair of errors.
Caleb Longshore started for Trevecca, but
Jerry Young (1-1) got the win while
Tim Dunn pitched the eighth inning for his first save of the year. Longshore pitched six innings giving up eight hits, five runs, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out three. Young allowed two hits, a run, a walk, and struck out one. Dunn was perfect with a strike out.
Several Trojans brought their hitting shoes.
Matt Tidwell was 2-5 with two RBI, a triple, and a stolen base.
Trey Morrison was 2-5 with a double, a stolen base, and an RBI.
Luke Fennell was 2-3 with two RBI, and a double.
Edwin Borbon was 1-3 with two RBI, two walks, a double, and a stolen base.
Trevecca will start the conference season with a weekend series at Bethel University (17-1-1) with a 2 p.m. game on Friday.ÂÂ
