Box Score GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Trevecca softball team (13-0) won its opening game at the Gulf Shores (Ala.) Invitational, knocking off NAIA #12 Shorter College (14-4), 7-1. ÂÂ
The Trojans jumped on the Hawks early, putting the game out of reach with a six-run first inning.
Breanna Zeis got it started with an RBI double to score
Megan Hemmingsen, who had reached on a single. Back-to-back singles by
Karli Rush and
Melinda Patterson made it 3-0, and
Lauren Baker capped off the inning with a 3-run home run, her first of the season. It was the Trojans 31st home run of the season, in just 13 The Trojans added another run in the second inning, while Shorter's only tally came in the fourth, on a hit batter, an error, and a passed ball.
Baker (7-0) went the distance for the win, giving up just two hits and the one unearned run, while striking out nine. Elizabeth Barber took the loss for the Hawks.
Next up for the Trojans is a matchup with Columbia College, Mo. (8-3) at 4 p.m. Friday.
