Tenn. - The Trevecca Trojans (16-7, 7-3 TSAC) defeated Martin Methodist
(15-8, 3-6 TSAC) 83-79. The game was originally scheduled for January
30, but was postponed due to snow.
Martin
Methodist opened the game with a 16-7 run and led by nine with 13:53
remaining in the half. Trevecca roared back to take a four point
(23-19) lead with a 16-3 run. Trevecca pushed the lead to five points
on several occasions over the remaining minutes of the half, but saw
the RedHawks tie the game at 37 with :38 left in the half. Trevecca
took a 38-37 lead into the break with a Marquise Rudolph free throw.
Aubre
Bodison gave the RedHawks a 40-38 lead with a 3-pointer :40 seconds
into the second half. Trevecca outscored Martin Methodist 9-1 over the
next 1:14 to take a 47-41 lead. Trevecca worked the lead to 11 points
on two occasions; the first was after a Michael France fast break
basket with 12:43 remaining. The second time was when Jeremy Dixon
scored after being fed in the paint by Marquise Rudolph as the Trojans
capitalized on a RedHawks turnover. The Dixon field goal put the
Trojans ahead 60-49 with 10:43 to go. Trevecca gained a double-digit
lead one final time (72-62) on a Matthew Elliott runner in the paint
with 4: 39 to go. The RedHawks used pressure and relentless rebounding
to make a final run at the Trojans. With a 1:51 to go the RedHawks had
close the gap to just one point (74-73) with a 11-2 run. That was as
close as the visitors would get, but they did possess the ball down
just two points (81-79) with 12.8 seconds to go. Jason Simon missed a
3-point attempt and the Trojans rebounded with 5.8 seconds left and
Michael France sealed the win with a pair of free throws.
Matthew
Elliott led the Trojans with 29 points and added five rebounds, two
assists, and a steal. Michael France added 24 points, 10 rebounds,
three assists, and two blocks. Marquise Rudolph led the team with 12
rebounds and just missed a double-double with a team-high eight
assists. Trevecca shot 27-60 (45%) from the field, 7-19 (37%) from
3-point range, and 22-27 (81.5%) from the foul line. MMC had a 50-40
advantage on the boards.
Aubre Bodison led the RedHawks with
24 points. Will Shackleford had a double-double with 15 points and 13
rebounds. The RedHawks hold a 20-16 advantage in the series.
Trevecca will host Bethel University (10-13, 2-7 TranSouth) on Thursday at 8 p.m.
