Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. - The #RV Trevecca men's basketball team (3-1) overcame a 15-point halftime deficit, took the lead late in the game, but ultimately fell short, losing 69-67 to No. 17 Campbellsville (2-1) Friday night at the Lindsey Wilson Classic.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, but the Trojans kept battling and were within four points at 24-20 on a bucket by
JP Nyadaro with 4:33 left in the half. However, the Tigers finished the half on a 14-3 run to take a 38-23 lead to the locker room.
The Campbellsville lead grew as large as 18 early in the second half, but the Trojans continued to chip away, ultimately tying the game at 55 with 4:47 to play. The game went back and forth the rest of the way, but the Trojans appeared to have things under control after
Peyton Henry knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 67-63 with just :29 to play. But a 3-pointer by Shawn Savage made it a 1-point game, and two missed free throws by
Michael France left the door open for another 3-pointer by Savage to give the Tigers the victory.
Poor free-throw shooting doomed the Trojans, as they made just 11-21 (52%) for the game, overshadowing a solid shooting night from the field. Trevecca shot 47% (26-55) from the floor for the game, despite the fact that they connected on just 4-14 (28%) 3-pointers. Campbellsville shot nearly 51% (29-57) from the field, including 10-25 (40%) from beyond the arc. The Tigers only went to the charity stripe five times, making one.
Nyadaro posted a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while France added 19 points and five assists, and
Marquise Rudolph contributed nine points, four rebounds, and five assists. Ja Vaughn Espritt led Campbellsville with 17 points, while Savage, Brandon Williams, and Brett Crittenden chipped in 12 points apiece.
The Trojans will take on the host Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College (1-1) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
