Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. - The Trevecca volleyball team (12-13, 4-6) stumbled on the road to Cumberland University (20-8, 7-3) 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 in TranSouth Conference volleyball action Thursday night at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
The Bulldogs defeated TNU in straight sets for the first time since 2005 and completed the season sweep of TNU after claiming two victories on the Trojans' home court in September.
CU took advantage of five TNU errors to take a 5-1 lead to start the match. The Bulldogs, who finished the opening set with 13 kills. CU pushed their lead to 18-13 and then held for the 25-18 win.
The Trojans took the early lead, going up 5-2, in the second set before CU rallied with an 8-1 run for a 10-6 lead. Cumberland held the lead near that margin for the rest of the set and settled for the 25-21 win.
With CU leading by four, Trevecca seemed to take control of the final set with a 7-0 run that ended after a Bulldog timeout. Cumberland eventually tied the game at 21 before a pair of TNU points put the visitors in prime position to force a fourth set. Cumberland rallied for the 25-23 win.
Trevecca will spend the weekend in St. Louis, Mo. participating in the Lindenwood University Invitational. On Friday Trevecca will face Culver-Stockton at 5 p.m. and Avila University at 7 p.m. On Saturday the team will play Clarke University at 1:30 p.m. and Robert Morris University at 3:30 p.m.
