JACKSON, Tenn. -
Trevecca (35-23) dropped the TranSouth Championship game 9-7 to Union
University (36-17) at Union's Fesmire Field on Thursday afternoon.
Union swept through the tournament without a loss and gave the Trojans
both of
their losses in tournament play. Union earned the conference's
automatic bid to the opening round of the NAIA Championships.
Editors Note: 5/8/2009 - On Friday the Trojans received the word they had hoped not to hear, that they were outside of the 45 invitations to the opening round of the NAIA World Series. There will be
46 teams
making the field, one is a host bid given to Lewis Clark State.

Nathan Wright hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, but Trevecca's rally - and
its bid for the TranSouth baseball tournament championship - fell short with the 9-7 loss to Union on Thursday.
Wright was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI, but the
Trojans trailed by five (8-3) after four innings and never fully
recovered.
Both starters were knocked out after 1.2 innings of work. Trevecca's
Ben Johnson (6-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on
five hits.
He walked one and struck out two. Brad Davis (6-4) got the win with
five innings of relief.
Cody Heggie was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and a RBI.
Aaron Bree was 3ofr-5 with a double for the Trojans, who lost in the
championship
round for the third straight year. Cumberland won the title in 2007 and
2008.
Trevecca had 13 hits and no errors and left eight men on base. Union had 11 hits and two errors and left six men on base.
Trevecca took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Union answered
with six in the top of the second. The Trojans put one on the board in
their
half of the second to make it 6-3 Bulldogs. UU took a 9-3 lead with two
more in the fourth and one in the seventh. TNU scored two in the
seventh and
two in the ninth for the final of 9-7 Union.
Union has defeated Trevecca in four consecutive games - all in the last
eight days. Trevecca defeated Union last Thursday in Jackson. It was
the
first of a three-game series. Union came back to win the next two and
defeated Trevecca in Monday's opening round of the TSAC Tournament.
Trevecca has been to the TranSouth Championship Round three years in a
row and reached the semifinal game in 2006 and 2003. Trevecca won the
tournament in 2005.
