Trojans Drop to Second in TranSouth

JACKSON, Tenn. - NAIA #26 Trevecca (33-21, 14-7 TranSouth) lost the push game of the three-game series with Union University (32-17, 10-10) 9-4 at Fesmire Field on Friday.

Trevecca will enter the TranSouth Tournament as the #2 Seed.

In game three of the series, Trevecca scored first in the fourth inning and lead 1-0. Union took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fifth and sixth innings. Trevecca answered with a three-run seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Trevecca looked to be on the way to a win until Union's Joe Gahan hit a three-run two-out home run in the Bulldog eighth. It sparked a seven-run inning.

Trevecca scored four runs on seven hits and aided the Union cause with four errors. Union scored nine runs on six hits and had two errors. Marty Parks drove in two runs and was 1-for-5. Brian Dirheimer had a solo home run and Ross Muirhead and Matt Tidwell contributed a double apiece.

Nick Shoupe started, but Ben Johnson (6-3) picked up the win in relief. Shoup started and pitched 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit, three walks and struck out four. Johnson pitched five innings and allowed six runs on three hits and four walks. Two of Johnson's runs were earned. Cody Dew (3-0) got the win in relief and he pitched a one hit top of the ninth.
