Tenn. - Trevecca (6-6) defeated Shorter College (5-7) 62-52 in the finale of the Robert Garrett Classic at Trevecca's Moore Gym.
Trevecca
jumped out early on the Eagles with a 20-8 start. Trevecca would pull
ahead by 14 points (32-14) when
Michael France hit a three-pointer at
the 3:38 mark of the first. France had 12 first half points. Trevecca
scored the first four points of the second half and took what would be
their largest lead of the game at 16 points - 36-20. Trevecca
maintained a double-digit lead until Shorter cut the lead to eight
points (44-36) with 8:34 remaining. The Eagles and Trojans traded
buckets until Shorter made another mini run to cut the Trojans lead to
just five points (52-47) with 1:56 to go, but Trevecca answered with
clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to pull away for the
10-point 62-52 victory.
Michael
France, a freshman from Shelbyville, Tenn., led Trevecca with 23
points. He was 8-of-11 from the field and hit 5-of-7 from beyond the
three-point arch.
De'Jon Everson (15) and
Brian Oduor (10) also reached
the double-figure scoring mark. Everson had a team high seven rebounds
and three assists.
Christopher Harris led the team with three steals.
Dennis Miruka had four blocks. TNU was 18-for-43 (42%) from the field,
7-of-11 (64%) from three-point range, and 19-of-22 (86%) from the foul
line. Shorter won the rebounding category 35-32.
The Annual Robert Garrett Classic honors the memory of former Trojan Robert
Garrett,
who passed away just before the start of his senior season in August of 2004.
Trevecca Nazarene

fund in memory of the late Robert Garrett II. The fund is designed to
help Trevecca basketball players finish their degree should they need
more than

Trevecca will play
its final game of the 2008 school year on
Tuesday, December 16 when they host NAIA D2 No. 9 Cedarville University
(10-1)
at 7 p.m. The Trojans will then take a break for the Christmas Holiday
Season and return to action on January 3, 2009 when they host
conference foe
Bethel College (9-3, 0-2) at Moore Gym.
