MEMPHIS — What a week it was for the Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team. The Trojans upended the No. 9 Lee University Flames on Wednesday at home, and on Friday, the Trojans hit the road down I-40 to the largest city in Tennessee where they met up with Christian Brothers University and put together another outstanding performance.
Trevecca (5-3-1, 3-2-0 GSC) tallied a pair of goals in the first half, and Penelope Charroin recorded her second straight clean sheet as the Trojans blanked CBU (1-7-1, 0-4-1 GSC), 3-0.
THE SERIES
CBU leads the all-time series 5-3, but the Trojans have now won three straight in the series. The Trojans beat the Buccaneers for the first time two seasons ago in Memphis, and since Trevecca joined the Gulf South Conference, the Trojans have out-scored the Buccaneers 10-3 with a pair of shutouts.
THE MATCH
Trevecca opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Kayelee Maners sent a cross into the box, and while CBU got a touch on it to break up the initial play,
Anny Mitra came up with possession and found Kyile Bradshaw who rolled a shot into the goal to put Trevecca up 1-0.
Trevecca continued to test CBU goalkeeper Kaylee Allen, and in the 34th minute, the Trojans broke through again. Tayley Linnenbringer - who drew the foul that led to the free kick and the game winning goal against Lee - received a beautiful through ball from
Olivia Perroni, and Linnenbringer raced in on goal. She fired a shot with her right foot that went in just below the bar to double the Trevecca advantage to 2-0, which proved to be the halftime margin.
CBU pushed forward in the second half, looking to get back in the match on the scoreboard. CBU took six shots in the final 45 minutes, including four on frame, but Charroin and the Trojans kept things clean, and in the 88th minute, Trevecca put the exclamation point on the proceedings. The Trojans forced a scramble in the box in front of Allen, and the ball found the feet of Maners with her back to the goal on the left wing side. The senior from Bowling Green, Kentucky circled back around a defender, and she lobbed a beautiful left footed strike into the top left corner of the goal to cap the scoring in the Trojans' 3-0 win.

Trevecca will take a break from GSC play in the midweek next week, as they will head to the northeastern corner of the Volunteer State. The Trojans will battle the Tusculum University Pioneers (1-6) in Greenville, Tennessee with kickoff slated for 4 p.m. Central Time.
