MEMPHIS — The two main stories this season for the Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team have been the offense and the goalkeeping. On Saturday night, the goalkeeping did the heavy lifting early for the Trojans, and in the dying moments, the offense came through to give the Trojans a big win on the road.
Hunter Walker picked up his fourth clean sheet of the season - this one with eight saves - and in the 85th minute, Zion Jones found the goal as the Trojans (6-1-2, 2-1-2 GSC) survived being out-shot 17-3 to take a 1-0 win at Christian Brothers University (3-5-2, 1-2-2 GSC). The victory gives Trevecca the same number of victories as they had in all of 2025. Trevecca is now two victories shy of tying the NCAA-era program record of eight which was set in 2013 and equalled in 2018. For Walker, he is now only 1.5 shutouts shy of the NCAA-era record of 10.5 which belongs to Braydon Brown who played from 2011-14.
THE SERIES
Trevecca is now within one game of leveling the all-time series with CBU, with the Buccaneers leading it 3-2. The Buccaneers won the first three meetings - two of those coming in the 1991 season and the third in 2024, but the Trojans have now defeated CBU the last two seasons by a combined score of 5-0.
THE MATCH
Opportunities were few and far between for the Trevecca offense on Saturday night. CBU recorded the first seven shots of the night with four of those on target. Walker came up with three saves, and a fourth save was made by the Trojans' defense.
Phillip Collins got a chance in the 28th minute that was turned aside by Pablo Ossorio of CBU, and Walker was asked to make a fourth save in the 36th minute to keep the match goalless at intermission.
Another team save from the Trevecca back line in the 48th minute, and four more from Walker kept things scoreless as the Buccaneers controlled the possession and kept the Trojans pinned back for much of the second half, but in the 85th minute, Trevecca found one more opportunity.
After a Trevecca goal kick - one of 15 for the Trojans in the match - Haden Brown found the ball near the halfway line on the left wing side. The freshman from Nashville lofted a ball down the wing to
Deron Ferguson, who squared in a beautiful one touch pass to
Zion Jones who slid in and one-touched it home with his right foot to put Trevecca up 1-0. CBU got one final free kick chance in the 89th minute, but they were unable to create a shot on the opportunity, and the Trojans took the win 1-0.

Trevecca will head down to Henderson, Tennessee on Tuesday night for a non-conference tilt with the Freed-Hardeman University Lions (6-2-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
