NASHVILLE — One of the keys to Trojans' early-season-success, was such a rugged defense; Trevecca had only conceded more than one goal twice this season, and would even come out winning both of those games. On Wednesday afternoon, Lee University (5-2-2, 2-2-0 GSC) came in and broke that narrative 35 minutes into the game. The Trojans (5-1-2, 1-1-2 GSC) fell into an early hole against The Flames as they saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end with a 3-1 loss.
THE SERIES
The loss snaps a 3-match unbeaten streak for the Trojans, and it marks Lee's first win in the series since 2016. Lee holds the all-time series lead 8-1-4.
THE MATCH
Lee built a 3-0 lead early in the match - and that did not bode well for the Trojans, as Lee had not conceded multiple goals in any of their last 10 matches dating back to a 2-1 loss at Delta State University late last October. The Flames cracked the scoresheet in the 18th minute, when Max Rode cashed in a pass from Ole Backfisch to give Lee the 1-0 lead.
The Flames continued to apply pressure and kept the Trojans on their heels for much of the opening half, and they doubled their lead in the 26th minute on a goal from Michael Oberbeck from Ansel Ledezma. The third goal came just shy of 10 minutes later when a Trevecca handball led to a penalty kick that was converted by Matias Milla Munoz to put Lee in control 3-0.
Trevecca forced a turnover in the 42nd minute, and that led to a beautiful goal to get the Trojans on the board. Daniel Shiel forced the ball free just outside the top of the Lee penalty area, and he sent a pass to Thomas Barros. Barros hit a perfect one-touch pass toward the spot, and Phillip Collins was waiting to volley the ball in off the right goal post to pull Trevecca within two at 3-1. That proved to be the halftime margin.
After the break, Lee focused on keeping possession and winding down the clock, and Trevecca had a hard time breaking that. The Trojans got only two shots in the final 45 minutes, and Lee was able to keep Trevecca hemmed in their own end.
Hunter Walker made four saves in the second half for Trevecca to keep the Margin at two, but Trevecca was unable to put a shot on frame, and Lee took the 3-1 win.

Trevecca will hit the road on Saturday for a trip to Memphis, Tennessee. The Trojans will battle the Christian Brothers University Buccaneers (3-4-2, 1-1-2 GSC) at 6:30 p.m.
