NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer player Chris Douglas has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026.
The honor comes as the unbeaten Trojans prepare for a significant early-season Gulf South Conference matchup Wednesday at No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville. Trevecca is 4-0-1 with the fifth-best won-lost-tied percentage in NCAA Division II, while UAH is 4-0-0 and one of just four NCAA Division II teams remaining unbeaten and untied. The Chargers moved into this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 at No. 20.
The TSWA honor was announced Tuesday as part of the third week of the 2026-27 TSWA College Players of the Week awards.
Douglas, a 6-foot junior forward from St. Johns, Antigua, and The Webb School, produced three goals during an unbeaten week for the Trojans, scoring twice in a 3-0 home victory over Johnson University before providing the equalizer in a 1-1 draw at the University of Montevallo in Trevecca's GSC opener.
Against Johnson, Douglas opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a combination from Judah Jones and Levi Jones to put the Trojans in front.
He struck again in the 65th minute, completing his two-goal night in the 3-0 victory.
Four days later at Montevallo, Douglas delivered again with Trevecca trailing 1-0.
Douglas found the back of the net in the 54th minute for the equalizer, helping the Trojans earn a point on the road and remain unbeaten through the opening five matches for the first time in program history.
DOUGLAS LEADS GSC, AMONG NCAA DIVISION II LEADERS
Douglas has scored five goals through Trevecca's first five matches, averaging one goal per match during the Trojans' unbeaten start.
He leads the Gulf South Conference in goals, game-winning goals and total points with five goals, two game-winners and 10 points.
Douglas also ranks among the NCAA Division II national leaders. He is sixth nationally in game-winning goals, eighth in goals per game, 10th in total goals and 16th in total points.
Douglas entered the 2026 season with 11 career goals, four assists and 26 points in 26 matches. He led Trevecca in goals and points during each of his first two seasons on the Hill.
The TSWA honor is the second of Douglas' Trevecca career. He also earned the association's Player of the Week award during his freshman season in 2024.
TROJANS OFF TO BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Trevecca is 4-0-1 through five matches, the best start in program history.
The Trojans opened the season with four consecutive victories, defeating King University, 3-0, Thomas More University, 3-2, No. 19 Carson-Newman University, 1-0, and Johnson, 3-0.
The 1-1 draw at Montevallo pushed Trevecca beyond the previous program-best four-match start established by the 2006 team. The 2026 Trojans are the first Trevecca men's soccer team to remain unbeaten through its opening five matches.
Trevecca has outscored its opponents 11-3 and recorded three clean sheets through five matches.
NEXT FOR THE TROJANS
Trevecca continues Gulf South Conference play Wednesday, Sept. 16, with a matchup between two of the league's remaining undefeated teams.
The Trojans visit No. 20 UAH at 7:30 p.m. at Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
UAH enters the match 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the GSC after opening conference play with a 2-1 road victory at West Alabama. The Chargers have outscored their opponents 12-2 through four matches.
Trevecca leads the all-time series with UAH 5-2-2 and has won four of the last five meetings. The Trojans are 3-1 all-time in Huntsville.
Following Wednesday's match, Trevecca returns to the Trevecca Soccer Complex on Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting Mississippi Christian University at 3:30 p.m.
