Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Rally Falls Short Late, TNU Pitchers Reach 400 Strikeout Mark

NASHVILLE – As the season's final regular season weekend got underway on Friday afternoon, the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team took the field trying to find some momentum heading into the Gulf South Conference Championship which will take place next weekend. At times on Friday, the Trojans looked like the team that led the GSC for much of the season, but when the dust settled, the Trojans dropped their fifth straight GSC series opener.

Trevecca (29-18, 18-13 GSC) opened the scoring in the first inning with a lead-off homer run from Rylan Moses, but the Lee University Flames (33-14, 21-10 GSC) rattled off 11 consecutive tallies before a ninth inning rally closed the final gap to 11-6.

In the game, though, the Trojans did make some program history, as Logan Harrell fanned eight in the game, which pushed the Trojans' pitching staff above the 400 strikeout barrier for the season for just the sixth time in program history, and only the fourth time since the Trojans moved to NCAA Division II. Three Trevecca relievers combined for four additional strikeouts, as the 2026 Trojans now sit in fifth all-time in season strikeouts as a pitching staff if program history. 

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES      
The loss drops Trevecca's all-time mark against Lee to 16-41, and the Trojans were unable to find their first three game winning streak against the Flames, after Trevecca won the last two games of last season's series.

HOW IT HAPPENED     
Moses quickly fell behind 0-2 as the Trojans' lead off batter in the bottom of the first, after Harrell worked a clean top half of the frame. Moses, though, battled back to fill the count before he lofted a home run to left field over the high green wall to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

The 1-0 lead held for Trevecca into the top of the third, when an error helped lead to two runs for the Flames as Lee took the 2-1 lead. In the sixth, the Flames hit back-to-back homers - showing off the power that has them atop the GSC in home runs - to open their lead to 4-1, and in the seventh, Lee plated two more early in the inning to take a 6-1 lead. Justin Lee came in from the bullpen to squelch the rally, and he also worked a scoreless seventh before handing the ball to Grant Donkin who worked a clean eighth inning. Lee's Cody Turner capped the Flame's scoring in the ninth with a 3-run homer to left that opened an 11-1 lead for Lee, but the Trojans did not give up.

Landon Rogers and Miles Nelson hit back-to-back jacks to open the ninth frame, and one out later, Moses and Cade Martin roped consecutive doubles to cut the deficit to 11-4. After a pitching change, the Trojans got a single from Caleb Martin and a walk from Drew Bradley to load the bases for Jaxson Christ who singled up the middle to knock in Martin and Webster, but that was all the Trojans could get, as the Flames held on for the 11-6 win.

NEXT ON THE DIAMOND       
Trevecca and Lee will wrap up their regular seasons on Saturday, and each will look to solidify their seeding in the upcoming GSC Championship. The conference tournament will be contested in Oxford, Alabama at Choccolocco Park May 1-5.
