Trevecca Baseball | Walk This Way; 10 Free Passes Help TNU Earn DH Split with No. 5 (ABCA) West Florida

NASHVILLE – As the 2026 season entered its second full month on Friday, the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team faced its toughest test so far. The Trojans welcomed the No. 5 West Florida Argonauts to Jackson Field. The Trojans and Argonauts opened their weekend series with both off to excellent starts in the Gulf South Conference standings, and headed into Saturday, each team has a victory on the weekend.

Trevecca (14-6, 9-2 GSC) used a parade of walks in the second game of the twin bill to take the 9-3 win after No. 5 West Florida (16-4, 8-3 GSC) took the series opener 6-1.

The Argonauts are ranked  No. 5 in the ABCA/Nettling Professionals Coaches Poll, No. 7 in the D2 Baseball News Poll, and No. 14 in the NCBWA National Poll.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

West Florida and Trevecca have now met six times - five in the regular season and once in last season's GSC Championship. The Argos hold a 5-1 lead, after UWF took all four meetings in 2025.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

The first two innings of the series opener went by scoreless, but in the third, the Argonauts struck first. A one-out walk and a double put runners at second and third UWF's Gustavo Mendez singled through the left side and plated two as West Florida took the early 2-0 lead.

UWF scored again in the fifth frame on a solo home run, another base hit scored two runs with two outs in the sixth, and a double drove in the Argonauts' last run of the game in the seventh.

UWF took a shutout into the ninth frame, but Noah Boughton made sure that the Trojans were not blanked, as he led off the inning with a home run to left field that provided the final margin of 6-1 as West Florida took the win.

GAME 2

West Florida jumped ahead again in the third inning of game two, but this time, Trevecca had an answer ready. Landon Rogers led off the frame with a single, Rylan Moses was plunked, and Caleb Webster sacrificed them to second and third with one away. Boughton followed with an RBI single to get the Trojans on the board, and Cade Martin followed with a 3-run blast to the deepest part of left-center field to give Trevecca the lead, 4-2.

West Florida got a lead off homer in the top of the fourth, and in the fifth, they threatened to reclaim the advantage. After the first two Argonauts were retired, a pair of walks with a single sandwiched in between loaded the bases against Trevecca reliever Ryan Sweeney. Facing Ethan Babcock - the same man who had homered to lead off the fourth for UWF, Sweeney battled to a full count, then froze Babcock with a breaking ball to squelch the threat, and Trevecca immediately added on.

Jaxson Christ clubbed a solo home run to left-center in the bottom of the fifth that made it 5-3, and in the sixth, the Trojans broke things open. For the second time in the game, Rogers led off what would become a four-run inning by reaching base - this time on a walk. After a balk, a wild pitch, and a walk, Webster laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Rogers to put the Trojans up 6-3. Martin drove in two more with a single later in the frame, and Christ picked up an RBI on a groundout to cap the scoring and push the Trojans' lead to 9-3. Sweeney worked a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the win and earn the double-header split.
