NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team enjoyed their nicest game day conditions of the young season
on Friday afternoon, and the offense was in high gear for the Trojans.
Trevecca (8-3, 4-0 GSC) answered a five-run fourth inning from Valdosta State (3-9, 1-3 GSC) with fireworks at Jackson Field, as the Trojans scored 10 runs in their next three turns at bat, and the Trojans rallied for the 13-5 win to run their winning streak to seven games.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
This marks the second weekend series between Trevecca and Valdosta State. The Blazers swept the Trojans last year, and with Friday's win, the Trojans are officially on the board in the all-time series. Valdosta State leads the Trojans now 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Caleb Webster led off the game with an infield single, and he came around to score on a two-out double from Myles Nelson that put the Trojans up 1-0. The margin stayed there until the top of the fourth inning when VSU plated five runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead.
The Trojans, though, answered in the bottom of the frame, and the answer continued over the remaining five Trojan offensive innings.
Rylan Moses belted a one-out double, and two batters later, he scored on a two-bagger from
Drew Bradley to pull Trevecca within three. Bradley later scored on a single from
Landon Rogers, and the Trojans ended the fourth trailing 5-3.
Nelson led off the fifth inning with a monstrous solo blast to cut the deficit to 5-4, and Rogers struck again later in the frame to tie the score at five with another RBI base hit. Webster then ripped a two-run double to give the Trojans a 7-5 lead they would not relinquish. Moses knocked in two more with a single in the sixth,
Tyler Jenkins followed his hit with an RBI groundout, and Webster added a sacrifice fly later in the frame to push the lead to 11-5.
The final two Trevecca runs came in the eighth. Jenkins led off the inning with a homer, and
Jaxson Christ was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to provide the final margin of 13-5.
