NASHVILLE – Ranked No. 20 nationally and No. 3 in the South Region by United Soccer Coaches, Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer brings a championship opportunity and a national scoring showdown to the Hill on Friday. The Trojans host West Alabama at 7 p.m. Central on Oct. 23 in a regular-season finale that can deliver Trevecca's first Gulf South Conference regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
The Trojans enter 11-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the GSC, tied with AUM atop the conference at 20 points and riding six straight victories. Standing between Trevecca and a title is a West Alabama team unbeaten in eight matches and led by David Nunez, the national leader in total goals and points. Trevecca answers with Chris Douglas, one goal behind Nunez and the Division II leader in goals and points per game.
West Alabama arrives 6-5-4 overall and 4-2-3 in conference play with 15 points, three consecutive victories and postseason stakes of its own. A Tigers victory would clinch a place among the GSC's top four and bring a quarterfinal to Livingston. A Trevecca victory guarantees at least a share of the championship and the top seed, regardless of the other results.
The GSC's two highest-scoring attacks have combined for 77 goals. West Alabama ranks sixth nationally in scoring offense at 2.80 goals per match; Trevecca is 13th at 2.50. Douglas and Nunez will command the spotlight, while the back lines and goalkeepers face the challenge of containing two of Division II's most productive offenses with a championship and postseason positioning on the line.
Trevecca's home postseason match is already secured. The Trojans will host a GSC Championship Quarterfinal Saturday, Oct. 31, with the time and opponent to be announced. Friday determines their seed and whether a regular-season trophy joins that milestone.
DOUGLAS AND NUNEZ LEAD THE NATIONAL SCORING RACE
Separated by one goal and three points, West Alabama's David Nunez and Trevecca's Chris Douglas occupy the first two positions nationally in total goals and total points in the latest NCAA Division II rankings. Nunez leads with 16 goals and 38 points in 15 matches. Douglas has 15 goals and 35 points in 12 appearances, leading Division II in goals per game (1.25) and points per game (2.92). Nunez ranks fourth in goals per game (1.07) and third in points per game (2.53).

Both forwards delivered significant performances Saturday. Douglas scored twice at No. 10 AUM to become Trevecca's NCAA-era career goals leader with 26. Nunez scored a second-half hat trick in a 4-1 comeback win at Mississippi Christian, establishing West Alabama single-season records for goals and points.
Their scoring extends beyond the current season. Nunez has 35 goals, 16 assists and 86 points in his UWA career. Douglas has 26 goals, nine assists and 61 points at Trevecca. One point Friday would move Douglas past Nicolas Reinhard into sole possession of second in NCAA-era career points; six would tie Jeremiah Wright's record of 67, and seven would break it.
WHAT A WIN DRAW OR LOSS MEANS
Only Trevecca, AUM and UAH can finish first. AUM also has 20 points, while UAH has 18; each has one match remaining. AUM visits Union at 5:30 p.m. Central on Friday, and UAH hosts Mississippi Christian at 7:30 p.m. Central.
A Trevecca win produces 23 points and the No. 1 seed. If AUM also wins, the teams share the regular-season title, with Trevecca holding the seeding advantage from its 3-0 head-to-head victory. An AUM draw or loss would leave the Trojans alone in first place.
A Trevecca draw produces 21 points and earns at least a share of the title if AUM does not win. If AUM draws, Trevecca takes the No. 1 seed, including a possible three-way tie with UAH: the Trojans went 1-0-1 against AUM and UAH, the best record among those three teams. If AUM loses and UAH wins, Trevecca and UAH share first place, with their seeds dependent on the final scores.
A Trevecca loss leaves the Trojans on 20 points. They would still share the title and take the No. 1 seed if AUM also loses and UAH does not win. Every other loss scenario places Trevecca second or third. The Trojans cannot fall below third, so Friday's result cannot take away their home quarterfinal.

Three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw. Trevecca is listed ahead of AUM on the current table because it holds the head-to-head seeding advantage.
THE TROJANS ENTER ON SIX STRAIGHT VICTORIES
Trevecca has outscored opponents 16-4 during its six-match winning streak, with four shutouts. The 3-0 win at No. 10 AUM was its first victory in that series, its program-record 11th victory of the season and the result that secured the home GSC quarterfinal.
Douglas assisted Daniel Shiel's goal at 6:09 before scoring at 47:31 and 88:37, both from Haden Brown assists. The victory followed a 4-0 win over Spring Hill in which Douglas recorded his second hat trick of the season. Trevecca finished the week with seven goals scored and none conceded.
THE PLAYMAKERS BEHIND TREVECCA'S ATTACK
Shiel gives the Trojans a second established finisher with eight goals, five assists and 21 points. Douglas and Shiel have combined for 23 of Trevecca's 35 goals, while Zion Jones adds four goals and two assists. Their production gives West Alabama more scoring threats to account for than Douglas alone.
Brown leads the GSC with nine assists overall and eight in conference matches. His overall total ranks sixth nationally, and his 0.64 assists per game rank eighth. The freshman supplied two assists against Spring Hill and two more at AUM, pushing his NCAA-era school record to nine.
Judah Jones has seven assists, ranking 17th nationally in total assists and 10th in assists per game. Douglas and Shiel have five assists apiece. Together, those creators have helped Trevecca reach 41 assists and 2.93 assists per match, both second in Division II, making the supply of chances a central part of Friday's scoring matchup.
THE BACK LINES AND KEEPERS FACE A NATIONAL SCORING TEST
Walker enters with seven shutouts, 59 individual saves, a 0.93 goals-against average and an .819 save percentage. His seven clean sheets tie Joe Shrum's 2002 all-era individual season record and tie for seventh nationally. A solo shutout Friday would establish a new all-era season mark and extend Walker's career record to 13.
The Trojans have not conceded in 327:14 and have kept three consecutive opponents scoreless. Brown, senior defenders Ciaran Bellis and Tomas Barros, and freshman Elias Lunde have helped protect that run. Lunde played every minute against Union, Spring Hill and AUM. That group now faces a West Alabama attack with 42 goals, the fourth-highest total in Division II, and a .588 shot accuracy that ranks second nationally.
Nunez gives Walker and the Trevecca back line the nation's leading goal scorer to track, while Jesper Bakli and Florian Laot have added 13 goals between them. West Alabama has scored 27 of its 42 goals after halftime, including all four in Saturday's comeback at Mississippi Christian. Protecting the match through the second half will be a major test of Trevecca's clean-sheet run.
At the other end, goalkeeper Dan Erez and defenders Oisin Griffin and Mathias Ibanez face a Trevecca attack that pairs Douglas's finishing with Shiel's eight goals and the service of Brown and Judah Jones. The Trojans have scored 22 of their 35 goals after halftime; West Alabama has conceded 19 of its 24 after the break. Those second-half numbers put sustained concentration and late defensive execution at the center of the matchup for both teams.
SCOUTING WEST ALABAMA
Ross Nelson's Tigers are unbeaten in their last eight matches at 5-0-3, including three straight wins over Union, Montevallo and Mississippi Christian by a combined 10-2 score. UWA scored all four goals after halftime Saturday to overturn a 1-0 deficit, with Nunez completing his hat trick between 57:52 and 70:52. Jesper Bakli added the final goal at 79:28.
Bakli has seven goals, four assists and 18 points in his first UWA season after playing at San Jose State. Florian Laot has six goals and five assists for 17 points, and Yabsira Cobo adds five assists. Nunez, Bakli and Laot have combined for 29 of the Tigers' 42 goals.
Erez has started all 15 matches, recording 45 saves, a 1.59 goals-against average, a .662 save percentage and two shutouts. The Tigers are 1-3-2 on the road, with Saturday's win their first away victory of the season.
WEEKLY HONORS ON BOTH SIDES
Trevecca has collected seven GSC weekly awards this season, including a sweep of all four for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 18. Douglas earned Offensive Player of the Week, Brown claimed both Defender and Freshman of the Week, and Walker received Goalkeeper of the Week after the two shutout victories.
Brown and Walker also earned the league's defender and goalkeeper awards, respectively, on Sept. 8, and Zion Jones was Freshman of the Week on Sept. 22. Douglas has added three Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors, announced Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and Oct. 6.
West Alabama has earned six GSC weekly awards. Nunez received three consecutive Player of the Week selections on Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. Daniele Ciarlesi was Freshman of the Week on Sept. 29 and Oct. 13, and Ibanez earned Defender of the Week on Oct. 13.
CONFERENCE LEADERS MEET ON THE HILL
Trevecca and West Alabama are tied for the GSC lead in conference-only goals with 21 apiece, averaging 2.33 across nine league matches. The Trojans lead conference-only assists with 28 and points with 70; UWA has 15 assists and 57 points. Brown's eight league assists are twice the next-highest total.
In conference play, Nunez leads with nine goals and 21 points. Douglas has eight goals and 20 points in seven appearances and leads in goals per game (1.14) and points per game (2.86). Walker ranks third among qualifying GSC goalkeepers in conference-only GAA at 0.89, while Erez is fifth at 1.22.
Across all matches, Trevecca ranks seventh nationally in points per game (7.93), just ahead of West Alabama in eighth (7.73). The Tigers rank 12th in total assists (32) and 17th in assists per game (2.13). Both teams bring nationally ranked production; Trevecca also enters with seven team shutouts to West Alabama's two.

SERIES AND RECORD WATCH
Trevecca is 0-1-1 in its two meetings with West Alabama. The teams drew 1-1 in Nashville on Sept. 22, 2024, before the Tigers won 5-1 in Livingston on Sept. 19, 2025. Friday offers the Trojans their first victory in the series.
A seventh consecutive victory would establish Trevecca's longest single-season winning streak, passing the six-win run shared with the 2002 team. A win also would extend the season wins record to 12, tie the program's seven conference wins from 2017 and 2018, and establish a new conference season points record with 23.
Brown needs one assist to produce the first double-digit assist season in Trevecca's NCAA era. A team shutout would give the Trojans eight, breaking the NCAA-era team mark of seven shared with 2012. Douglas already owns the NCAA-era season records for goals and points and the career goals record.

*The score-dependent cases involve a two-team tie between Trevecca and UAH on 21 points. Their Sept. 16 meeting ended 1-1, so the next tiebreaker is the GSC power rating. Trevecca enters Friday at 53 and UAH at 46. The formula awards five points for a league win, one for a draw, one additional point for a shutout win and one for each goal scored, capped at three per match.
If Trevecca draws 0-0 and UAH wins 3-0 or by a larger shutout score, UAH earns the higher seed. If Trevecca draws 1-1 and UAH wins 3-0 or by a larger shutout score, the teams finish even in power rating and league goals allowed, reaching the commissioner's coin toss. Every other final-score combination in that two-team tie gives Trevecca the higher seed. These exceptions do not apply to a three-way tie with AUM, which Trevecca wins on head-to-head results.
