Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojan Chris Douglas Named D2CIDA National Player of the Week

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University junior forward Chris Douglas has been named the D2CIDA Men's Soccer National Player of the Week for Oct. 12-18 after a five-goal week that included a hat trick, a victory at a top-10 opponent and a place atop the Trojans' NCAA-era career goals list.

Douglas produced five goals and one assist for 11 points as Trevecca defeated Spring Hill 4-0 at home Wednesday and earned a 3-0 victory at then-No. 10 Auburn Montgomery Saturday.

Douglas is the GSC's first recipient this season from either men's soccer or women's soccer and the first Gulf South men's recipient since Oct. 7, 2025 when Kendrick Hernandez of UWF was recognized.

The national recognition adds another milestone to a historic season for Douglas and the Trojans. Trevecca climbed to a program-best No. 13 in Tuesday's United Soccer Coaches Division II national poll and enters Friday's regular-season finale with an 11-1-2 record, six consecutive victories and a chance to secure its first conference championship.

CHRIS DOUGLAS | D2CIDA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#21 | JR | F | 6-0 | St. Johns, Antigua | The Webb School

FIVE GOALS, TWO VICTORIES AND A CAREER RECORD

Douglas opened the week with his second hat trick of the season, scoring three times in Trevecca's 4-0 victory over Spring Hill on Oct. 14. The performance established new Trevecca NCAA-era season records for goals and points while helping the Trojans match the program's previous all-time season wins record.

He followed that effort by contributing to all three goals in Saturday's victory at AUM.

Douglas assisted Daniel Shiel's opening goal before scoring twice in the second half, with Haden Brown providing the assist on both finishes. His second goal of the afternoon lifted his career total to 26, making him Trevecca's NCAA-era career goals leader.

The victory was Trevecca's first in the AUM series, established a program record with 11 wins and secured a home Gulf South Conference Championship quarterfinal.

Across the two matches, Douglas put eight of his nine shots on goal and played 168 minutes. He contributed directly to six of Trevecca's seven goals during a week in which the Trojans did not concede.

A RECORD SEASON WITH NATIONAL REACH

Douglas now has 15 goals and five assists for 35 points in 12 appearances this season. His goals and points totals are Trevecca NCAA-era season records, and he leads Division II in goals per game at 1.25 and points per game at 2.92.

His production has helped move a Trevecca team picked eighth in the GSC preseason coaches' poll into the national Top 15 and a tie atop the conference standings.

The national award follows Douglas' GSC Offensive Player of the Week selection as Trevecca swept all four conference weekly honors. Brown earned both Defender and Freshman of the Week, while Hunter Walker received Goalkeeper of the Week.

Douglas' honors this fall also include Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week selections on Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and Oct. 6.

FROM ANTIGUA TO THE HILL AND BACK HOME

Douglas' season has carried significance beyond his collegiate scoring totals.

The forward from St. Johns, Antigua, came to the United States to play at The Webb School in Bell Buckle before continuing his career at Trevecca. This fall, in the middle of the Trojans' historic season, he answered a call to join Antigua and Barbuda's senior national team for the CONCACAF Nations League.

In his second match of the trip, Douglas scored twice and supplied two assists in a 5-0 victory over Anguilla.

Head coach Danny Leavy and Douglas' teammates supported his opportunity to represent his country. In his first match back with Trevecca, he delivered three goals in a 4-3 comeback victory at Freed-Hardeman, completing his first collegiate hat trick with the winning goal with just 1:07 remaining.

A NATIONAL SCORING SHOWDOWN WITH A CHAMPIONSHIP AT STAKE

Douglas and the No. 13 Trojans return home Friday, Oct. 23, to host West Alabama at 7 p.m. at the Trevecca Soccer Complex in the biggest home match in program history.

A Trevecca victory guarantees at least a share of the GSC regular-season championship and the No. 1 conference tournament seed. It would deliver the first conference championship in men's soccer program history and Trevecca's first Gulf South championship in any sport.

Friday also matches Division II's top two players in total goals and points. West Alabama's David Nunez leads the nation with 16 goals and 38 points, while Douglas follows with 15 goals and 35 points and leads both per-game categories.

The Tigers are unbeaten in eight matches and are seeking a victory that would secure a home conference quarterfinal.

Trevecca has already clinched a home GSC Championship quarterfinal Saturday, Oct. 31. The opponent and kickoff time will be announced after the conference standings are finalized.

Friday's doubleheader begins with the Trevecca women hosting West Alabama at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m. All times are Central. Live statistics and FloCollege streaming links are available through the Trevecca soccer schedule pages. Stephen Swoner will be on the call on the FloCollege Live Stream Broadcast.
