NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene Women's Basketball team (10-6, 7-4 GSC) earned a huge win on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Union (TN) (12-7, 7-4 GSC) by a 70–61 final at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The victory marked Trevecca's first win over Union since 2007.
THE SERIES
The win snaps a long drought against the Bulldogs, as Trevecca improves to 4–20 all-time against Union and earns its first victory in the series in nearly two decades.
THE MATCH
The opening quarter saw both teams settle in defensively, with Union holding a slim 15–13 edge after one. Trevecca responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 15–12 to take a 28–27 lead into halftime.
The Trojans found their rhythm coming out of the break, using a 21-point third quarter to create separation. Trevecca shot efficiently in the period and held Union to 14 points to build a seven-point cushion entering the final frame.
Union made a push in the fourth, scoring 20 points, but Trevecca answered with timely baskets and strong defense down the stretch. The Trojans matched the Bulldogs with 21 points in the final quarter to secure the 70–61 win.
THE TEAM
Trevecca shot 47.3 percent from the field and connected on 41.7 percent of its three-point attempts, while also converting 13-of-19 free throws. The Trojans controlled the glass with 38 rebounds and generated extra possessions with 13 second-chance points.
Defensively, Trevecca forced 10 turnovers and turned those into 12 points, while also recording 20 fast break points. The Trojan bench contributed 24 points, providing key production throughout the game.
THE PLAYERS
Jordan Gillies led Trevecca with 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, adding three assists and one steal.
Ava Jones provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and a nearly perfect 5-for-6 effort from the free-throw line.
Tatum Shaw and
Cheyenne Trotter each finished with 12 points, with Trotter also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Natalia Hernandez added nine points, while
Brianna Burgess contributed five points and five assists.
