Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Kennel Bulldogs; Earn Third Straight GSC win

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – The 2025-26 Gulf South Conference season reached the halfway point on Saturday afternoon, and for the Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team, that meant welcoming one of their oldest foes to the Trojan Fieldhouse. Trevecca hosted the Union University Bulldogs, and the Trojans put together a sound defensive effort that led to their third straight win.

Trevecca (12-5, 7-4 GSC) held Union (7-10 GSC) to only 25 points in the opening 20 minutes, and from there, the Trojans had the margin they needed, as they coasted home with an 80-63 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Union started quickly as they opened the game on a 7-2 run, but Trevecca answered quickly and they never looked back. Trevecca answered with a 7-2 run to tie the score at 9-9, and after Union briefly reclaimed the lead on a basket with 13:55 to play in the half, Trevecca rattled off another 14-2 run to take the 24-13 lead. The Trojans slowly inched out to a double digit lead, and the Trojans closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 42-25 lead into the locker room at the break. The Trojans held the Bulldogs to fewer points in the opening half than any other opponent in a countable game this season - two fewer than the 27 they allowed to Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee on November 25.

The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 12-2 run that closed the gap to seven at 44-37, but a layup from Latham Binkley ignited a 14-2 run that stretched the Trojans' lead to 19 at 58-39. Union began to accumulate some foul trouble in the middle stages of the second stanza, and the Trojans were able to take advantage to keep the Bulldogs at arms' length. Trevecca held Union to their second lowest point total of the season, and they pulled away to the 80-63 win.

THE TEAM
Trevecca made 41.7% (25-60) of their shots in the game, and they were 9-for-22 (40.9%) from long distance. The Trojans made 21 of 27 (77.8%) free throws in the game, and for the second game in a row, the Trojans protected the basketball very well - turning it over only six times in the contest. The biggest scoring edge the Trojans held in the game came off the bench, where Trevecca got a whopping 55 points to only 15 for Union. Trevecca also held the edge in scoring off turnovers (27-8) and in the paint (32-20) despite being out rebounded by Union 41-33.

THE PLAYERS
Four Trojans scored in double figures led by Justin Bass and Tyler Moore who each had 14. Fred Bailey finished the game with a dozen tallies, and Latham Binkley chipped in 11. Bailey led the Trojans with seven rebounds and six assists, while Moore and Cade Capps each had three steals.

UP NEXT
Trevecca hits the road to begin the second round of GSC matchups on Thursday, and that will present the first chance for Trevecca to avenge an earlier loss. The Trojans will head to the University of Montevallo to take on the Falcons (11-6, 7-4 GSC) at 7:30 p.m.
