NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a back-and-forth match defined by attacking play, the Trevecca Nazarene men's soccer team (3-3-1, 1-3-0 GSC) fell 3-2 to Montevallo (2-2-3, 1-0-1 GSC) on Sunday afternoon at the Trojan Soccer Complex.
THE SERIES
With the loss, Trevecca remains winless in the all-time series against Montevallo, now 0-3.
THE MATCH
The Trojans struck first in the 18th minute when
Chris Douglas buried a finish off an assist from
Daniel Shiel, giving Trevecca the early 1-0 lead. Montevallo responded just after halftime, as Dominic Kienzle equalized in the 59th minute.
Douglas put Trevecca back in front in the 62nd minute, slotting home his second of the afternoon from
Fabian Willert's feed. But the Falcons' Kienzle proved too much down the stretch, converting a penalty kick in the 81st minute before netting the game-winner in the 87th to secure his hat trick and the 3-2 result for Montevallo.
Montevallo finished with a 19–12 edge in shots (11–4 on goal) and pressed late to complete the comeback. Trevecca goalkeeper
Hunter Walker tallied eight saves in the loss.
