Trevecca Volleyball | First Gulf South Road Win Comes for Trojans at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (8-3, 2-0 GSC) opened the road portion of their Gulf South Conference season with a 3-1 at the University of Montevallo (

THE SERIES 
The Gulf South Preseason #6 Montevallo are not 3-3, The Falcons sweept the season series in 2024. So, the Trojans got their first GSC win versus UM. 

THE MATCH 
The Falcons led 3-1 early, but Trevecca fought back to take the lead 7-6. It was tight the rest of the way in the first set. With the set tied at 21-21, Trevecca found just enough separation to get the win, closing out the set with a 4-2 run.
 
In the second set, Trevecca held a 6-5 lead early, but the Falcons pulled ahead 8-6. The set remained close, but the Falcons maintained the lead the rest of the way.
 
The third set look for a while to be headed toward the home team. In fact, the Falcons led 22-20 late in the set after holding as much as a four-point lead a couple times. The Trojans decided to take the match, first getting a side out on a Addison Cunnagin kill. Then rolling off three straight points on the serve of Lily Vanbebber. Two of those points came on service aces by Vanbebber. TNU closed out the set 25-23 to take a 2-1 advantage.
 
Trevecca continued the momentum into the fourth set, taking a 7-0 lead. After a Falcon side out, the Trojans rolled off four more points for an 11-2 lead. The Trojans kept the Falcons at distance, winning the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
  
TROJAN NOTES
The Trojans hit .424 in the fourth set and .212 for the match.  
 
TNU got a big night from Katilyn Grant who had a career-high 20 kills and added two blocks, an assist, and an ace.
 
Addison Cunnagin had 17 kills, and ace, two blocks, and six digs. Mackenzie Martin had 11 kills on the night. Skias Hainline had 49 assists and eight digs. Lily Vanbebber had 23 digs, four assists, and three aces.

UP NEXT
Gulf South Preseason #2 UAH (9-2, 1-1 GSC) on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2:00 PM. The Chargers have a 13-2 edge in the series with all meetings coming in the D2 era. The last Trojan win came in 2021 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on the UAH campus.
 
The Trojans return home for a three game home stand on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (6:00 PM) when the preseason #3 Lee University Flames (5-6, 1-1 GSC) visit. The Trojans and Flames have a long history in the NAIA era, but in the D2 era, the Trojans have a 2-1 edge in the series. The teams split the season series last year.
 
Preseason # 10 West Alabama Tigers (6-4, 2-1 GSC) opens the October slate when they visit Trojan Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 PM. Trevecca took both meetings in 2024, the only two games between the two schools in volleyball.
 
Preseason # 4 Mississippi College (5-7, 2-0 GSC) faces the Trojans on the Hill at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 4. The two teams split the regular season series last year, but the Choctaws won the rubber match in the GSC Championships. They now lead the all-time series 2-1.
