HUNTSVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (4-2) won two of three matches for the second week in a row, this time at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Invitational.
Saturday, the Trojans beat Nova Southeastern (3-2) in five. Addison Cunnigan produced her second double-double of the weekend. She had 49 kills through weekend and 28 digs. Adding six blocks and three service aces.
Skias Hainline also had two double-doubles with 121 assists and 39 digs on the weekend.
Friday, Trevecca split their two matches, falling to Lincoln Memorial in four, then sweeping Spring Hill.
THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between Trevecca and Nova Southeastern in volleyball. The advanced to the NCAA South Region Championships last year.
THE MATCH
Nova opened the set with a 10-6 advantage, then led 18-13. Trevecca got a side out and then scored four more points on the serve of
Skias Hainline to tie the set 18-18. The Sharks were able to get enough separation again to take the set.
The second set proved to be tight all the way through and came down to the wire. With Nova leading 21-20, the Trojans rallied to take five of the last seven points for the win.
The third set looked a lot like the second. It was tight throughout and Nova again held the lead late, 22-21, when Trevecca scored the final four points for a 2-1 set advantage.
The Sharks opened the must-win fourth with an 8-1 lead. Trevecca battled all the way back, eventually taking the lead 23-21. The Sharks steadied and took the set in extra points (26-24).
In the match deciding fifth, Trevecca jumped out to a 10-4 lead and took the set 15-10.
TROJAN NOTES
Addison Cunnigan led the way with a career-best 22 kill effort. She had another double-double with 10 digs. She hit .277 for the day.
Katilyn Grant also reached double digits in kills with 13 and was a part of five blocks.
Lily Vanbebber had a team-high 24 digs and added six assists.
Skias Hainline produced a double-double with 44 assists and 16 digs.
The team hit .163, better than the Sharks .153.

Trevecca heads to Searcy, Arkansas next week for the Harding University Invitational. They play Southwest Baptist University (2-5) on Friday at 9:30 AM. The Bearcats lead the series 1-0. Also on Friday, at 5:30 PM, the team plays the host Harding University Bison (4-2) at 5:00 PM. Harding leads the all-time series 2-0. They close out the week and non-conference play on Saturday when they face Southern Arkansas University (3-6) at Noon. The Muleriders lead the all-time series 1-0.
