SEARCY, Ark. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (5-3) opened the Harding University Invitational with a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19) victory over Southwest Baptist University (3-7) on Friday morning.
 
Their second match on Friday was against the host Harding University (8-2), the Bison won 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20).

GAME ONE – SOUTHWEST BAPTIST 

THE SERIES 
Trevecca evened the all-time series with the Bearcats at 1-1 with the 3-1 victory.
 
THE MATCH 
With Trevecca leading 11-10 in the first set, the Trojans used a 9-4 run to grab control of the set with a 20-14 lead.
 
SBU controlled the second set early. With the Bearcats leading 8-7, Trevecca looked to gain control with a 5-0 run that put the Trojans up 12-8. With Trevecca seeming to be in control, up 20-14, the Bearcats flipped the momentum and claimed the set with a 11-1 finish.
 
The third set was tight early and the teams were knotted at 14-14 midway through. Trevecca methodically gained control with a 9-3 run. SBU closed the TNU lead to just two (23-21), but the Trojans got the sideout and finished the set on a Charlee Young serve.
 
Trevecca led the fourth set 11-3 and were in control most of the way, leading by as many as 10 a couple of times late.
  
TROJAN NOTES
Skias Hainline led the way with a triple-double, recording 10 kills, 40 assists, and 13 digs. She hit .643 for the match and added in four block assists.
 
Three other Trojans hit double digits in kills – Mackenzie Martin (10), Katilyn Grant (10), and Addison Cunnagin (12).
 
Lily Vanbebber contributed 25 digs with four assists and an ace. Isabella Sherrod added 11 digs and three aces.
 
GAME TWO – HARDING UNIVERSITY

THE SERIES 
The Bisons all-time series 3-0.  
 
THE MATCH 
The Bison jumped out to a 9-3 lead in set one. They later led 18-11. Trevecca began to chip away, but Harding kept the Trojans from getting fully back in the set.
 
The second set was tied 3-3 when the Bison pulled away with a 5-0 run. The Trojans fought back scoring six of the next seven points to knot the match up at 9-9. Later, a 4-0 HU run put the Bison up 23-17. Trevecca made things interesting, eventually facing set point four times before finally relenting to the hosts 25-23.
 
Trevecca led early in the third, taking a 7-4 lead, then led 12-11 when the Bison pulled ahead for the first time, 13-12. With the set tied 14-14, HU took control with a 4-0 run. Trevecca cut into the lead a few times, but could get no closer than three the rest of the way.
  
TROJAN NOTES
Katilyn Grant led the Trojans with nine kills (.500). Lily Banbebber had 11 digs and Kayla Bullard added 10 with four kills.  

UP NEXT
Trevecca finishes play at the Harding University Invitational on Saturday when they face Southern Arkansas University (3-6) at Noon. The Muleriders lead the all-time series 1-0.
 
Next week, the Trojans start their second season of Gulf South Conference play. Union University visits on Tuesday. The battle with the Bulldogs starts at 6:00 PM.
 
The first GSC road trip for the Trojans comes next week as well when TNU visits Montevallo on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 PM. On Saturday, Sept. 27, Trevecca faces UAH at 2:00 PM.
 
The Trojans return home for a three game home stand on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (6:00 PM) when the Lee Flames visit. West Alabama opens the October slate when they visit Trojan Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:00 PM. Mississippi College faces the Trojans on the Hill at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 4.
