NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (5-9, 3-4 GSC) played its first ever Gulf South Conference home game at Jackson Field on Friday afternoon.
The Trojans took down the University of Montevallo (9-7, 4-3 GSC) 5-2 to open the three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Falcons tacked on a run in the top of the first, the Trojans' bats quickly came alive in the home half of the frame. A lead-off single set up a
Luke Dymond home to left center field for Trevecca to recapture the lead. An error plated a third run, which ended up being the game-winning run. The Falcons captured another run in the third off a single through the right side.
Josh Griffin stole third base in the fourth and later scored off a throwing error to make it 4-2 after four complete.
Brett Dingess sent a ball over the left center field wall to make it 5-2 Trevecca in the fifth. Montevallo collected a hit in each of the next four innings but that was all as the Trojans hung on for the 5-2 win in the series opener.

Spencer Wilkins (1-1) started and picked up his first win of the season. He struck out six over 5.1 innings of work in which he allowed just two earned runs and eight hits.
