NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University Women's Basketball team (7-20, 4-17 GSC) fell 77-62 to the first-seeded Union Bulldogs (25-3, 20-1 GSC) in a conference game at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Thursday afternoon.
THE SERIES
With the loss, Trevecca drops to 3-20 all-time against Union.
BREAKING IT DOWN
Despite Union already having clinched the No. 1 seed in the Gulf South Conference, Trevecca held its ground for much of the game, battling back after a tough opening quarter.
The Trojans briefly led 2-0, but Union responded with a dominant 20-5 run, attempting a staggering 26 field goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Trevecca committed 10 turnovers in the first quarter, putting them in an early hole.
The Trojans, however, showed heart in the second quarter. They stormed back with a 13-2 run, cutting the deficit to a single possession just five minutes into the period.
Union then regained control, outscoring Trevecca 20-11 the rest of the way to take a 42-29 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Trevecca continued to fight, delivering an efficient third quarter. The Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 20-15, shooting a remarkable 80% from the field in the period, setting up a competitive final frame.
With eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Trevecca kept the game within four points. However, Union flexed its strength down the stretch, closing the game on a 17-8 run to secure the 77-62 victory.
THE PLAYERS
Amaya Thomas led the Trojans with a double-double, scoring 20 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.
Cheyenne Trotter followed with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Monique Emelifeonwu played a strong all-around game, adding 17 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
THE TEAM
Trevecca controlled the paint, outscoring Union 46-24 and winning the rebounding battle 44-42. A strong third quarter saw the Trojans shoot 80% from the field, keeping them within reach. However, turnovers proved costly—Union forced 28 and turned them into 36 points.
Despite holding Union to 32.9% shooting and 29.2% from three, Trevecca struggled offensively, making just two three-pointers and shooting 52.6% from the line.
