NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University Women's Basketball team (8-20, 5-17 GSC) wrapped up the 2024-25 season with a 63-45 win over Christian Brothers University (1-27, 1-21 GSC). Trojan seniors Tatum Shaw and Jenissa Varela were honored for their careers with TNU before the game.

THE SERIES

With the victory, Trevecca sweeps the season series against CBU and improves to 2-0 all-time against the Buccaneers in women's basketball.

BREAKING IT DOWN

Trevecca came out with intensity and efficiency, setting the tone early. The Trojans opened the game by shooting 66.7% from the field (8-12) in the first quarter, while holding CBU to just 21.4% shooting. This start earned them a 17-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter mirrored the first, as Trevecca continued its hot shooting, hitting 63.6% (7-11) from the field.

Defensively, the Trojans stifled CBU, limiting them to 21.1% shooting in the frame. By halftime, Trevecca had built a 37-20 advantage.

After halftime, both teams struggled offensively in a sluggish third quarter. Each team managed just two field goals, with Christian Brothers slightly edging Trevecca 10-7 in the period.

Despite the slowdown, the Trojans entered the final frame with a 14-point lead (44-34).

In the fourth quarter, Trevecca regained its offensive rhythm, outscoring the Buccaneers 19-15 to comfortably secure the win.

THE PLAYERS

Amaya Thomas led the way with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals, capping off her season with a double-double.

Cheyenne Trotter added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jayda Woods provided a spark off the bench with 7 points and 2 rebounds.

THE TEAM

Trevecca's defense was suffocating, holding Christian Brothers to just 24.6% shooting from the field and forcing 21 turnovers. The Trojans dominated the paint with 28 points in the key and had 22 fast-break points, keeping the tempo in their favor throughout.

SEASON BREAK DOWN

Tatum Shaw finished the season as Trevecca's leading scorer, averaging 10.7 points per game. She recorded a career-high 26 points in a win over West Florida (Feb. 6) and led the team with 27 steals.

Amaya Thomas was close behind, averaging 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Her season-high 21 points came against Alabama Huntsville (Feb. 1).

Cheyenne Trotter had a balanced season, leading the team in rebounding with 8.5 boards per game, while also averaging 9.5 points. She notched seven double-doubles, the most on the team.

Despite the team's struggles this season, Head Coach Karen Booker maintains a 49-42 overall record (33-29 conference) in three seasons at the helm. The Trojans will look to rebuild and come back stronger for the 2025-26 campaign.

With the season concluded and postseason hopes out of reach, Trevecca will shift its focus to the offseason as they aim for a fresh start in their second year in the Gulf South Conference.
