NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene women's basketball team (6-3, 3-2 GSC) earned a 63–56 Gulf South Conference win over Valdosta State (3-6, 1-3 GSC) on Thursday night at home.
THE SERIES
Thursday's result marked Trevecca's first win in three meetings with Valdosta State.
THE MATCH
The game opened evenly, with both teams tied at 14 after the first quarter. Valdosta State used a 18–12 edge in the second period to take a 32–26 lead into halftime, as Trevecca struggled to find consistency from the field early.
The Trojans responded coming out of the break, outscoring the Blazers 17–12 in the third quarter but still a point behind the Blazer coming into the fourth.
Trevecca carried that energy into the fourth quarter, where they posted 20 points while holding Valdosta State to 12. The Trojans capitalized on defensive stops and converted at the free-throw line late to pull away down the stretch and close out the seven-point win.
THE TEAM
Trevecca finished the night shooting 40.7 percent from the field and went 10-of-17 from the free-throw line, using points in the paint and second-chance opportunities to stay in control late. The Trojans recorded 14 second-chance points and scored 23 points off turnovers, turning defensive pressure into offensive production. Trevecca also received a strong bench contribution with 19 points from reserves.
THE PLAYERS
Cheyenne Trotter led Trevecca with 15 points and nine rebounds, and a block while anchoring the interior.
Tatum Shaw followed with 11 points, while
Ellie Butler also chipped in 11 points off the bench on an efficient 4-of-9 shooting night.
Jordan Gillies finished with 10 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

The Trojans return home Saturday afternoon to face West Florida (7-3, 2-1 GSC) at 2 p.m.
