NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team took the floor Saturday afternoon at Trojan Fieldhouse looking to build on recent momentum, but a decisive fourth quarter by West Florida proved to be the difference.

Trevecca (6-4, 3-3 GSC) held the lead late into the contest, but the University of West Florida Argonauts (8-4, 3-2 GSC) used a strong final period to pull away and claim a 69–62 Gulf South Conference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca came out strong in the opening quarter, scoring 24 points to take a 24–18 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. The Trojans controlled the tempo early and built an eight-point advantage before West Florida began to settle in.

West Florida responded in the second quarter, outscoring Trevecca 18–11 to take a narrow 36–35 lead into halftime.

The Trojans answered coming out of the break, holding the Argonauts to just 12 points in the third quarter while scoring 16 of their own. Trevecca regained the lead and entered the final period ahead 51–48.

West Florida took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring Trevecca 21–11 behind efficient shooting and key baskets off turnovers. The Argonauts pushed the lead to as many as seven points in the closing seconds to seal the road win.

THE TEAM

Trevecca finished the game shooting 39.7 percent from the field and was efficient at the free-throw line, converting 15-of-17 attempts. The Trojans scored 26 points in the paint and recorded 16 second-chance points, but were limited offensively in the final quarter as West Florida closed the game on a strong run.

THE PLAYERS

Jordan Gillies led Trevecca with 16 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double.

Tatum Shaw followed with 15 points, while Cheyenne Trotter added seven points and pulled down 10 rebounds to anchor the interior.

UP NEXT

Trevecca will wrap up the 2025 portion of their schedule when they travel to Crestview Hills, KY to play Thomas More (9-1). The Trojans and the Saints will tip-off with a New Years Eve matinee at 2 p.m.
