Trevecca Athletics | Trojans Soar Again in NCAA Academic Success Rate Report

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University Athletics continues to rank among the NCAA Division II leading schools academically, placing in the top 12 of all Division II athletic departments in the NCAA's annual Academic Success Rate (ASR) report released this week.

Trevecca achieved a 94 percent ASR, ranking No. 12 among 311 Division II institutions. Since joining the NCAA in 2012–13, the Trojans have maintained a national ranking each year with an ASR above 93 percent.

The ASR tracks graduation outcomes for all student-athletes, including those not counted in the federal rate.

Trevecca's consistent excellence reflects its long-standing commitment to academic achievement, student support, and holistic development.

Trevecca Athletic Director Mark Elliott said, "In our motto of Christian-Scholar-Athlete, 'Christian' comes first. But holding the middle ground of those three words is 'Scholar.' Maintaining an Academic Success Rate above 90% for seven consecutive years is a significant academic achievement and a shared testament to the dedication of our athletes, coaches, faculty, and academic support staff. This accomplishment is another example of how our C-S-A philosophy has become an expectation within the university community."

Trevecca President Dr. Dan Boone affirmed Elliott's work to create a culture of spiritual, academic, and athletic growth for Trojan athletes.

"It is the joint effort of a great campus that enables our student athletes to thrive academically. I'm grateful for coaches, professors, the Center for Academic Support, and our athletes who prioritize their studies," Boone said.

Trevecca is one of 43 schools to earn the President's Award for Academic Excellence, an honor awarded to Division II schools that achieve an Academic Success Rate of 90 percent or higher. This marks the seventh consecutive year, and eighth overall, that the Trojans have earned this designation from the NCAA.

Professor Jon Burch, Trevecca's faculty athletic representative, works closely with athletic director Mark Elliott, the leadership team, and the Trojan coaches to provide student athletes opportunities for academic success.  Burch noted the intentional effort behind this academic marker being reached again.

"Academics are not secondary at Trevecca. Our student-athletes embrace the expectations in the classroom, and we are unapologetically proud of this accomplishment."

Four Trojan teams have a 100 percent Academic Success Rating: women's golf, men's golf, women's soccer, and volleyball. All eleven Trojan teams eligible for consideration achieved an ASR of at least 90 percent.

"I am proud to see our Trevecca student-athletes continuing the trend of being ranked in the top tier of academic success within the NCAA," Trevecca Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Tom Middendorf said. "It is proof that their drive and passion extend beyond athletic competition and into the classroom. They embody our mission of Christian-Scholar-athlete."

The latest NCAA national rankings are based on the 2015-18 four-year cohort. The Academic Success Rate is the percentage of student-athletes who graduate within six years of initial collegiate enrollment, including those transferring to another institution while in good academic standing.

The Trojans' highest ranking to date came from the 2012-2015 four-year cohort, with a fifth-place national ranking and an ASR of 97 percent.
