BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 GSC) opened the 2025–26 regular season with a 54-46 win over Barry University at the GSC/SSC Crossover. The win marked the first official victory for Head Coach Doug Novak at the helm of the Trojans.
THE SERIES
Trevecca ties the series 1-1 against Barry.
Barry entered the contest following a 19-win campaign in 2024–25.
THE MATCH
Trevecca opened strong with a 14–5 first quarter, establishing an early defensive tone and limiting Barry to just two made field goals in the opening frame.
Barry responded with a 14-point second quarter, but Trevecca maintained control, taking a 26–19 lead into halftime behind consistent rebounding and timely perimeter shooting.
The Trojans kept their lead in the third, as they matched Barry 15–15 to keep the margin steady at 43–34 heading into the final period.
Barry made multiple pushes in the fourth, but Trevecca closed the game with key defensive stops and efficient late possessions, finishing the final quarter 13–12 to secure the 54–46 win and deliver Coach Novak his first official victory.
THE TEAM
Trevecca shot 35.0% (21–60) from the field, 37.9% (11–29) from three, and 50.0% (1–2) at the line.
The Trojans totaled 36 rebounds, forced 19 turnovers, off which they scored 17 points and recorded 9 steals. They also totaled 13 second chance Points, 20 points in the paint and had 7 pints from the bench.
THE PLAYERS
Jordan Gillies led the offense with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block (6–13 FG, 6–10 3PT).
Brianna Burgess followed with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals soothing 3-11 from the field, all those coming from three.
Cheyenne Trotter had a solid game with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block and a steal (4–9 FG).
Tatum Shaw also helped with 7 points, 4 steals and 2 assists.
