CLINTON, Miss. — The Trevecca Nazarene women's soccer team (3-7-4, 1-5-4 GSC) entered Sunday's match with the Mississippi College Choctaws (6-7-3, 4-4-2 GSC) knowing that they needed at least a point to keep their postseason dreams alive. Trevecca got an early opportunity, but they were unable to cash it in, and the Choctaws made the Trojans pay, as MC took the win 1-0, officially eliminating Trevecca from postseason contention.
THE SERIES
With the win, the Choctaws avenged their loss in Nashville from a season ago in the only other meeting in the history of the series.
THE MATCH
Trevecca got the first opportunity of the match in the sixth minute. Mississippi College turned the ball over in their defensive half of the field, and Anny Mitra sent a ball through to Noelle Garcia. Garcia managed to get possession behind the MC goalkeeper Celine Grothe, and Garcis got two good looks at the goal, but both of her attempts were saved off the line by the Choctaws defense, and the match remained scoreless.
Less than three minutes later, Mississippi College got on the board when Charlie Cooper took the ball down the right wing side through the Trojans defense, and she fired a low shot past Trojans' keeper Bailie Fiore to give the Choctaws the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
Trevecca was not credited with a shot in the opening half, and in the second half, the Choctaws outshot the Trojans 4-1 officially, as Trevecca was unable to get the offense going and the Trojans fell 1-0 to officially end their postseason bid.
UP NEXT
Trevecca will have two more matches at home to finish the season next weekend. The Trojans will host Christian Brothers University (3-11-1, 1-9 GSC) on Friday evening at 5 p.m., and on Sunday afternoon, Trevecca will welcome long-time foe Union University (4-5-3, 3-5-1 GSC) to Nashville at 2 p.m.
