NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (1-1-0) opened their home season with a 3-2 loss to the University of Missouri – St. Louis over Young Harris College (0-2-0) at the Trojan Soccer Complex.
THE SERIES
The Trojans and Tritons met for the first time in men's soccer.
THE MATCH
For his second starting lineup of the season, Coach Danny Leavy made minimal changes to the midfield and defense but opted for a completely new front three. Judah Jones, Chris Douglas, and Phillip Collins, all of whom started on the bench in the previous match against Carson-Newman University, were given the nod in attack.
UMSL opened the scoring early, just four minutes into the match. A foul by Trevecca's Judah Jones resulted in a free kick, which Campbell converted, placing the ball into the lower right corner for his first collegiate goal.
Campbell doubled the Tritons' lead in the 27th minute, this time from the penalty spot after a foul in the box. He calmly slotted the ball into the same corner, making it 2-0.
UMSL added a third and final goal early in the second half off a corner kick. Luca Saewe found the back of the net with an assist from Colton Milosch.
Trevecca pulled one back in the 82nd minute when Luke Tedder crossed the goalkeeper with a low shot to the left corner, on a Sam Barrionuevo assist
With only 30 seconds left in the game, the Trojans made it 3-2, as Chris Douglas found the net after a pass from Tom Hooper, but the comeback fell short as UMSL held on for the win.
