MONTGOMERY, AL – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-1-1 GSC) claimed their first Gulf South Conference victory of the season, defeating Auburn University at Montgomery (2-4-1, 0-3-0 GSC) with a commanding 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
THE SERIES
This match marked the first-ever meeting between the Trojans and the Warhawks in women's soccer.
THE GAME
The Trojans took control of the game early, opening the scoring in the 27th minute when
Skye Baun fired, assisted by
Jordan Hellman.
Just over a minute later, in the 28th minute,
Maria Luiza Rocha doubled Trevecca's lead after finishing
Isabel Felger's cross of the set piece, sending the Trojans into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
Early in the second half, Trevecca extended their lead to 3-0 in the 48th minute with
Kaylee Maners striking a shot into the high-right corner.
Auburn Montgomery pulled one back in the 62nd minute when Courtney Pigford found the net with a high-left shot, making it 3-1.
However, Trevecca responded almost immediately, with
Anna Farrell scoring in the 63rd minute, assisted by
Kaylee Maners, to restore their three-goal cushion at 4-1.
Auburn Montgomery added a late goal in the 89th minute through Reia Henry, assisted by Michaelyn Manning, but it was too little too late, as Trevecca secured the 4-2 victory.
